Isabella

2014 (Isabella narrates):

     -Guys, this is Emily Acevedo, she comes from Cartagena and she will be with us from now on-.

     I saw a girl approaching through the door, she seems like a good person, but you can tell she is very sad.

     -Sit in the empty chair next to Matias- Said the teacher to the girl. She approached Matias. He is a bit of an irritating boy, he is so different from me.

     I could see them talking and laughing. I want to talk to the new girl, but I don't want her to be friends with Matias.

     At lunch, Matias doesn't go to the cafeteria, he goes to play soccer with his friends, I took advantage and decided to sit next to the new girl.

     -Hi girl, is it empty?- I said pointing to a chair in front of her.

     -Yes, it's empty- she said crestfallen as I sat down next to her.

     -Do you have a middle name? I don't want to call you like everyone else- I said to start a conversation.

     -I'm Emily Gabriela- she said with a small smile on her face.

     -Then you'll be Gaby for me, do you like it?-

     -I love it.-

     We kept talking and laughing, she told me a little bit about her life in Cartagena and I told her about my childhood. I feel that she will become someone very special to me.

2018 (Isabella narrates):

I didn't like spending New Year's without Gaby, she had never been away for those dates. Then they took away her cell phone, the poor thing is so bored because her parents don't know what fun is, but after they gave her back her cell phone and she told me everything that happened at that party, I felt like I was listening to what a completely different person than Emily would do, but I was so happy for her.

When she was at her church camp I spent time with my family, we didn't talk at all those days but I hope she had a great time. The day she was coming back, Mati and I were arranging a surprise for her.

-Matias, you and art really don't get along well.- I tell Mati who gets a little scared, he was thoughtful.

-I do what I can Isabella, you don't have to be so bossy- he tells me. I really don't know what Gaby sees so special about him, he and I get along just because of her.

-Now... What shall we write in it? Gaby or Mily?- I say, I want to name her Gaby obviously.

-What if we just put Emily?- said Mati, quite calm to be true, so I decided not to contradict him.

-All right, fair enough.-

I decided that I should do all the rest of the decorations because Mati would damage them, not to be mean to him, but art is not his forte. We finished pretty quickly so we got to playing until my cell phone rang, it was Maria, Gaby's mom.

~Bella answers~

-Hi Maria, how's Gaby?-

-Bella, Emily's bus was in a terrible accident- She was crying, I was trying to understand what she was telling me.

-IT CAN'T BE! IS SHE ALRIGHT?- I couldn't hold back the tears and fell to the floor.

-We don't know, so far ambulances are on their way, but they say the accident was serious.-

-We'll keep an eye out.- I said and hung up the phone as I could.

~End of call~

-Mati, Emily's bus crashed, they say it is very serious and ambulances are on their way.- I said in desperation. I can't believe this is happening to her, she doesn't deserve this to happen to her.

Mati hugged me, we were both crying like never before, I hope it's nothing serious.

I haven't heard much from Emily, sometimes they call me and tell me how she is, but nothing very detailed, whenever Gaby's parents call me, I call Matias and tell him everything.

~Bella's cell phone rings~

-Hi Mati, how are you doing?-

-Bella, Emily is blind, there is no cure or remedy, she was hit very hard and she will never see anything again in her life- said Mati crying, I didn't know what to say or what to do, I could only listen. -I am going to go to her house, I know you are busy, but when you are free, please come with me, Mily needs all the support we can give her.-

-I'll try to get out of it quickly, I'll be there- I said, trembling and hung up the phone.

I can't believe this, she doesn't deserve this, she is a very special girl, kind and loving, she didn't deserve this to happen to her, I need to be there for my friend. I have art class for 1 more hour, but I will leave as soon as my class is over, I will buy a pizza and I will make Emily very happy.

Two hours later, I'm in front of Emily's house, I'm nervous but I know that Mati has been with her these two hours and I know that between him and me we can cheer her up, I don't know what I'm going to say, I don't know what I'm going to do, for now, I can only knock on the door...
