Some people believe that your relationship with your family improves, when something like what happened to me happens to you, but it is not true. Although I must accept that if I've had to get closer to them (because of that little detail that I do not see anything), I hate that they see me as a little girl who cannot do anything, I don't like it or I will like it.
I'm in the car with my mother, we're going to a place that I personally don't want to go.
-How have you been?-
-I'm good- I said with a serious tone, I know I'm being hard on her, but if I tell her that I'm not ok, she will start a conversation that I prefer to avoid right now.
-You know you can trust me, if you're not ok, you can tell me.-
-I know mom, thank you-
When we arrived at the place, my mom told me that the meeting was at the psychologist's apartment because "it's more personal." My mom knocked on the door and left me there with a complete stranger for 1 hour.
-Hi Emily, how are you?- The psychologist said as she took me by my hand to help me sit on a sofa.
-I'm fine- She knows I'm not fine, but I think from now on it will be like that with her.
-Want something? Juice, water, whatever you want-
-A glass of water would be fine-
Since I went blind I have become very deductive using my other senses. As I listened to her walk away from the room, I was trying to figure out what this woman I'm talking to is like. From her voice I can tell that Claudia is a wise woman, her voice is soft, from what I can deduce that she is a calm and patient person, she also sounds sweet and young. When she took me by the hand to help me sit down I didn't feel any rings, so she's single or she's in a fight with her partner. She walks with quick steps, something that a person who has a lot of work does and her steps are short, so she is a short woman.
-I suppose you already know why you are here, so I'm going to save the speech.- Ok, that way of starting the talk captivated my attention -My name is Claudia Lozano, I am 25 years old, I am a graduate of Psychology and I am currently doing a Master's degree in that same area, I've been working on this for 5 years and I'll be the woman you'll be with for a few days. Would you like to introduce yourself?- Her voice has certainty that I had never heard before, she is not the typical crazy woman who thinks that if she talks to you beautifully, you are going to tell her all your problems, instead, she is different, she is young and very carefree, I feel like she can become a good friend, but I'm not going to make her job very easy.
-Well, my name is Emily, I'm blind and I don't want to be here, but I guess you already know all that.- I'm not going to make this easy for her, I don't want her to know me more than she should.
-Well, I don't want to be here either, but... We don't have a choice, do we?-
-We don't-
-Ok, since neither of us wants to be here, I suggest we play something. What do you think of 2 lies and 1 truth?-
-Fine- I'd rather play than be talking about my life.
-Okay, I'll start. I am engaged, I have short hair and I would like to be an actress. What is the truth?-
-Easy, you are not engaged because I did not feel any ring on your finger when I took your hand, you do not have short hair because your hair brushed my shoulder when you gave me the glass of water, so you want to be an actress.-
-Surprisingly, you're right. You go.-
-Ok. I'm an athlete, I really like art and I have a boyfriend.-
-I know you're not an athlete because when you arrived your mother asked you if you brought the inhaler, but I don't know which of the other two is the truth, I'm going to say that you do have a boyfriend.-
-I don't have a boyfriend, the truth is that I like art, in fact I decorated my backpack.- I said and a little laugh escaped my mouth, until a thought in my head made it disappear. -I still don't think I'll do it again, I can't make art if I can't see it-
-Ok... I'll go next...-
We played for a long time, I don't know how long. Then she told me a little about her private life and my mother came to take me home... I don't want to rush, but she seemed like a good person, she was not boring and she was different from how I thought she would be, so I liked this visit.
I took my phone on the way home. I know it is strange, but I have learned to use it without being able to see it. I use a new update in which every single thing I want to do on it, I tell it with my voice, it has been strange, but at least I did not have to run out of my phone.
I felt my hand vibrate, it means that someone is calling me, how strange. Who is calling me on a Saturday?
I answer:
-Hello?-
-Hi Emi, I'm Brigette-
-Hi Bri! How are you?-
-Super good, I have good news-
-Tell me, what happened?-
-A family is going to adopt me! We are already preparing everything, next week they will pick me up.- She sounds so happy.
-Those are very good news Bri, I'm very happy for you.-
-And you haven't heard the best, they live in New York! which means we'll live closer.- Brigette doesn't know I'm blind, in fact it's the first time that I speak to her since the camp.
-That 's amazing! I'm really glad that things are going well for you.-
-And how are you? Did you go back to school yet? What have you done these days?-
-Well... I had an accident when I returned to New York, now I'm blind and they changed my school.-
-What?! It can not be! That 's impossible!- Her voice trailed off, she was about to cry.
-I know Bri, I have no remedy, I am trying to adapt to this new... condition.-
-Well Emi, I have to go, but do not hesitate to call me if you need something, I love you, I hope you can improve yourself.-
-Thank you Bri. Goodbye.-
