Chapter 6

Dandelion-

*flashback*

4 years ago:

Grandpa loved his garden. He grew lots of flowers, and grandma would arrange them for their dining table.

One day, a month before my twelvth birthday, grandpa came into the house with a yellow dandelion.

He had taken me by the hand and led me to my room. He left, and came back shortly with a heavy, thick book. He opened the book somewhere in the middle and placed the flower in it before shutting it, flattening the flower.

A month later, he laminated the now-flat, dried dandelion, and wrote my name at the corner with a marker. Then he gave it to me.

"Happy birthday, my sweet." He had said in his raspy voice.

"This is a piece of me, that I want you to keep."

I loved it, and kept it since then.

Around December, grandpa had a heart attack and peacefully passed away.

Other than pictures, that was the only piece of him I had left...

*present time*:

Crystal-

We couldn't find it.

We searched everywhere! Dandy was pretty sure she dropped it in the library this morning, but when we got there, it wasn't anywhere in the library.

She was getting really worried. I know how much that flower meant to her, but it was getting really late. Our parents would be worried.

"Dandy, its getting late. Our parents will be worried if we don't go home soon." I tried to say soothingly, but I probably sounded like I had a sore throat too.

"Don't you think I know that?" She snapped, still looking around.

I sighed.

Lucas-

We went to Nate's house.

I decided to crash there for tonight, since his house was nearer to the school anyway.

When his mom asked how he got the black eye, I couldn't help but roar with laughter again. It was pretty damn funny.

Nate and I literally got kicked out of the library by our asses! My ass still hurts a little, but at least the damage wasn't to my face!

Nate-

Cursed librarian... I hope her car tyre punctures on her way back!

While Lucas was still laughing, I went to grab an ice pack before storming up to my room.

I lay on my navy blue sheets and placed the ice pack over the eye where the librarian punched. No one ever hits me! No one!

Then I remembered something. I took it out of my pocket and stared at it.

Its yellow petals were dried, turning it into a brownish-yellow.

I wonder if this Dandelion girl is searching for it...well, I don't know what she looks like anyways, so even if I wanted to return it to her, I can't.

Who IS Dandelion Johnson?

Dandelion-

It was getting really late. Crystal finally managed to convince me to go home- much to her relief. I swear, I heard her mutter "praise the lord"...

Once I reached home, River ran up to me to hug me.

"Dandy! Why are you so late? Its almost past dinner time!" He told me.

I hugged him back and looked at the clock. It was slightly past 8 o'clock at night. I sighed.

"Its nothing. What's for dinner?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

River grinned.

"Pizza!"
