POV
MASON GRANT

Chicago Elenore is my childhood home. A place I would love to return to, but I can't. My life is here in Sandton now. Where the mornings are the coldest and the nights are the darkest. After the tragedy that happened I had to get out of that place. Away from it all. "Mason!!", my colleague ,Chris, shouted. Christopher is a friend of mine from college we both recently started working at a garage for extra cash."What?!", I asked very annoyed at him for taking me out of my trance. "There is a old lady here that needs your help with her car","Mrs James?-", I asked knowing the answer already. "Yes, you know she only comes here asking for you".
I got up from where I was sitting next to the engine and walked outside to assist Mrs James. She never really wants assistance with her car she just wants my attention and I've realised this many times before.

"Hello, Mrs James. What can I do for you today?", I ask with a very polite tone."My tire is making funny noise's", she says and I immediately regret wanting to make extra cash at a garage. I patiently ask," Which one ma'am?",she points to the front left tire and I immediately go to see if something is wrong. After checking everything."Nothing is wrong with the tire, Mrs James",I say slightly annoyed at this woman for wasting my time but at least she pays well.

She is actually not as old as Chris makes her to be and if I wasn't in this bad place of my life right now. I would probably be flirting with her."Are you sure? I could swear it was making a weird noise",she says successfully attempting to bend down in front of me to check the tire and for a moment I enjoy the view but then before she could stand up straight. I moved out of the way and said, "No,there is nothing wrong" , I say slightly uncomfortable with the married woman making passes at me. She then thanked me and promised that she would be back. She paid me the amount for a check up and a tip as well.

After that she left leaving behind a small piece of paper with her address and number in my jean pocket. I thanked her for the payment and greeted her. Chris saw that she pushed a piece of paper into my pocket. He kept teasing me about the older woman that has a crush on me. I just ignored him.

Later that day when I arrived home I realised that my sister Brooks wasn't home yet and it was late. I know exactly where she is I thought to myself. I got into the broken wreck I called a car and drove to the Bar all the way across town. While driving memories came flashing back. Memories that will never leave my side.

One late morning/night myself and Landon where on our way to the Bar in Chicago. The Bar was very nearby. We had just hijacked our first car and we went to the bar to celebrate. When I  received a call from my granny telling me that I should come home quickly. I told Landon that I needed to get home immediately and he didn't want me to leave. We argued about who would keep the car because non of us wanted to have a stolen car. I told him to keep it just for the night and I'd fetch it the next day.

When I got home. I ran into the house and saw that my dad had left and took all his stuff leaving my mom heart broken in tears on the floor. At first I didn't understand what was happening and then I realised a pregnancy test on the floor next to my mom. My granny came from out of the kitchen. When I saw my mother so heart broken I became furious. My granny saw this and called fifteen year old me to the kitchen. She explained to me that my dad left and...

I eventually reached the Bar my sister was at with her friend Josepha or Josie or something like that."Brooks come we leaving", I said very softly in my sisters ear after spotting her in the crowd. She turned and saw it was me and she could already sense how angry I was. So she greeted her friend and told her that they'll talk again tomorrow. Josepha nodded her head and turned to the other people they were talking to."Next time if you decide to stay out so late at least let me know",I said firmly to my sister,"yeah, yeah",she answered clearly annoyed at me for treating her like a child. The drive back was quiet and I could tell that we both had an exhausting day. As much as my sister loves being with her friends she is not really a out-going person. She is a very quiet person and only says things that are necessary.

Immediately when we arrived home I took a shower and went straight to bed. Brooks did the same because she had to go to campus the next day and I had work.
