~!~ Hello everyone!! So, today's prompt was Light! I am going to be posting this one in two parts, so this is not the whole story, and while it could be read alone, I would not recommend it XD so please return for the second part!! I hope you like this first part, though <3 ~!~

Soho, London 2021

Light.

That was the first thing Crowley was aware of.

Blindingly bright, white light.

"Mmmuphale?" he asked.

He cracked his eyes open a smidge and then immediately closed them again. A thin strip of light had been burned into his retina. "Mmrph."

He opened his eyes for a second time and was once again surprised by how bright it was. "Gehh."

Eyes now sealed tightly, he rolled over in the bed. It appeared to be less bright on the other side. Tentatively, he opened his eyes once more.

When it wasn't immediately painful, he opened them a little more. Soon enough, his eyes were completely open.

His gaze flicked to the window. It was still dark out. So that must mean...

"'Ngel," he said, reclosing his eyes as he moved to pat the sleeping entity. "Hey. Angel," he gently shook him.

The only response he got was a small snore.

He paused for a moment, quietly laughing to himself. "Aziraphale. My love. Wake up," he shook him a little harder.

Aziraphale gasped and moved around in the bed in a way that Crowley had to guess was him getting to a sitting position. "Crowley? What's wrong? Are you okay?" warm hands felt their way around Crowley, apparently assessing him for injuries.

"I'm fine, angel, I'm okay," Crowley soothed.

Aziraphale's movement slowed. "Are... are you asleep?"

"What? No!"

"... Your eyes are closed," he said suspiciously.

"Yeah. Because you're glowing," Crowley explained gently.

"... How would you be able to know how I look if you can't see me?" Aziraphale said after a moment, with a tone of voice like he'd just proved to a sleeping demon that he was, in fact, sleeping.

"Angel- I mean. You are literally. Emitting a blinding light," without being able to see Aziraphale, he gestured to where he hoped his glowing body sat.

"O-oh! Oh gosh, it appears I am."

"Yup. Is it... like a defense mechanism thingy? Were you having a nightmare or something?"

Silence.

"Aziraphale?"

"I- erm. Ah. Not exactly, no, I... I don't think it is," he answered, sounding cagey.

Crowley furrowed his brow. "It's alright if it is! I'm not upset with you for anything you dreamed, or for waking me up, or- just- I'm not upset. And you can tell me if something is wrong," he rambled. Aziraphale was much harder to read when he was glowing brilliantly and one could not easily inspect his face to analyse his micro-expressions.

"No... erm. Nothing is wrong. I was having a dream, but it was... of the pleasant variety. I rather think this is due to- well, joy."

"Oh," Crowley said, at a loss as to why Aziraphale clearly felt so awkward about this if the dream was positive.

"I'll see what I can do to get it to stop-"

"You don't have to!" he held up his hands placatingly. "Not if this is an expression of your happiness! I mean- I want you to feel free to be as happy as you please! You don't have to turn it off for my sake- with my eyes closed it's- it's not that bad! I-"

"My dear, it's the middle of the night! You need to rest, and I know you can't sleep like this. Dimming the light wouldn't dim my good spirits, it would just... keep them in a more internal place," Aziraphale said slowly.

Crowley's face screwed up at the sound of his angel's uncertainty. "But- I don't want you to feel like you have to bury your happiness- or any of your feelings for that matter- for me!"

A gentle hand took a hold of Crowley's. "I don't feel that way, love."

"Hnng- but- angel, you know the song! 'This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!'" he sang, his voice still a bit scratchy from sleep.

Aziraphale laughed. "You are ridiculous," and as he spoke, the light dimmed until it appeared to be snuffed out completely.

Tentatively, Crowley opened his eyes. Upon seeing Aziraphale, his face melted into a smile. Even without literal light, the angel was beautiful enough to be considered glowing. "I meant it, though. You can let it shine if you want, I wouldn't hold it against you."

The angel smiled. "I'm sure you wouldn't, dearest, but I shan't nonetheless. We both should get some rest, and I'd reckon it may prove rather difficult when one of us is lighting the whole room, like some sort of miniature sun."

Crowley snorted at the mental image of sun-Aziraphale. "I s'pose," he agreed, laying back down and getting comfortable under the covers.

Aziraphale snuggled in beside him. "Yes, well. Good night, darling. I hope the rest of your sleep may be peaceful," he said softly, kissing the nape of Crowley's neck.

"'M sure it will, angel..." Crowley answered, already beginning to drift back into slumber.

And, with one more kiss from Aziraphale, the demon found himself dreaming of the angel he liked best.
