"Psst, Killua," Gon whispered, "I lost my pen, do you have one?"

Killua flinched his eyes for a moment, then reached into his bag. "Here you go, idiot." he whispered irritatedly, then tossed the pen to the boy sitting adjacent to him.

"Thank you." Gon murmured back. Killua shifted his gaze away without speaking.

Before long, the bell sounded, marking the end of the day. Numerous students shuffled out of the building without a second thought.

"Hey, wait up!" Gon called to Killua, who was already making his way out the door.

"What?" Killua turned to make eye contact.

"I was wondering... is there a way we can stay in contact with each other?" Gon sheepishly asked.

"Um, just give me your phone."

Gon passed his cell phone to Killua, and curiously watched as his fingers manipulated the screen.

"There. I put my phone number into your contacts. Well, see ya." Killua started out the door, throwing a hand up as a way of waving goodbye.

He watched Killua exit the building, then glanced down at his phone. Not too bad, I made a couple friends toda-

His thought process was interrupted by a jab on the shoulder.

"Hey."

Gon jumped. "Gah, Retz! You scared me."

Retz wore a passive-aggressive demeanor. "Are you two... friends?"

"Yeah! I just met him recently bu-" Gon noticed the glare he was receiving.

"I don't think you should talk to him anymore. He's not a good person." Retz declared.

"...what do you mean?"

"Knowing him, he's probably just manipulating you to get something he wants. If you don't want to get hurt, don't bother."

Retz changed her tone quickly. "Anyways, I'm gonna get going. I'll see you later!" She giggled, and skipped out the door.

Gon remained stationary in confusion. What does she mean? Is she lying? There's no way that can be true, he's so...

He realized his mind was wandering, and glanced around. There wasn't anyone in the vicinity around him. "Well, I should be going myself."

Killua walked alone on his way back to his house, lost in thought. What was his deal? He's just so... optimistic? And why does he take such an interest in me?

He opened the door to his house, and flicked the lights on. He ambled through, rested his bag on a chair, grabbed a package of store-brand chocolate, and secluded himself in his room. Nobody else is home... like usual.

His room was dark and bare. All the blinds were shut, and there was not much furniture besides a full bed, a modern styled bureau, and a slick, monochrome media table with an expensive yet relatively small television resting on top.

Killua took off his black turtleneck and set it aside, and then sat forlorn in the middle of the bed. Did I... make a friend today? No, he's just an acquaintance. He'll probably end up disassociating himself soon anyways.

Meanwhile, Gon was ecstatic when he entered his house. He thought his day couldn't have gone better, and was satisfied with the fact that he made multiple friends on his first day. "Hey Mito, I'm home!"

There was no response in return. Gon took off his jacket and sat in one of the kitchen's chairs. She's probably working late. Well, what should I do now?

The boy took out his phone, opened messages, and composed a new one. I know, I'll text Killua!

He sent a simple message just to verify that he had the right number. However, around ten minutes have passed and Gon still hasn't received a response. There's no read receipt, so he hasn't even seen it yet?

Just then, he was caught off guard. A number he was unfamiliar with texted him. The message was short and sweet: Gon, right?

He replied very quickly: Yeah, who's this?

The figure behind the number revealed themselves: Oh, it's Retz. Hiya~

Gon was fine with Retz texting him, but there was still a very obvious unanswered question: How did you get my number?

There was a slight pause before she responded: Palm gave it to me.

Although Gon doesn't recall giving Palm his phone number, he just dismissed the case. He texted back: Oh, alright. Is there anything you want to talk about?

Moments later, Retz responded: Nothing in particular, I'm just sooooooo bored. How about you?

Gon was honest: I'm a little bored, too.

The blonde sent a message to change the topic: Hey um, you aren't trying to talk to that Killua, right?

Gon sighed, and rested his head in his hand: What exactly is so bad about him?

In an abnormally short amount of time, Retz sent a paragraph: He's literally such a weirdo. He isolates himself, never talks to anyone, and literally him along with his whole family are psychopaths. If you stay near him, you'll literally just end up being hurt, likely physically AND mentally.

He set his phone down on the counter. There was no way he was going to reply to such a message. To Gon, it just seemed like a bunch of rumors.

A few minutes later, his phone vibrated, and he read Retz' message through the notification: Don't say I didn't warn you.

He dismissed the situation completely.

Hours later, dusk had settled in and there was no major activity. However, at around 7:30 P.M., Gon received a text from Killua: Uh yeah, sorry I was sleeping. Is this Gon?

Gon got a sudden burst of energy, and replied in an instant: Yeah! How are you? :)

A typing bubble appeared and lingered for a couple minutes. However, the result was nonetheless anticlimactic: I'm fine.

Gon made an effort to engage in conversation: So, earlier today Retz was saying really bad things about you, but I can tell she's just trying to start drama.

It took about seven minutes for a reply: Can I ask you something honest?

Thinking nothing of it, he replied quickly: Yeah, of course!

Killua's reply came faster than his others: What is it that makes you want to talk to me?

In complete honesty, Gon didn't expect a question like that. Either way, it didn't take him long to text back: I think you're really nice, and well, I'm new here and you're one of the first friends I made!

Killua didn't reply. Not out of dislike or mischief, but pure confusion. ...friend? He considers me a friend?

Although it was a simple word used to describe a platonic relationship, it felt off with Killua. After all, he has never actually had a friend before. Gon... why? How are you like this, especially with somebody like me? Whenever Retz talks, everyone believes her, no matter how far-fetched her claims are. I just... I don't understand.

Killua texted Gon back a brief message: I'll see you tomorrow.

Over the course of the night, Killua's mind was still filled. He's really investing time in me. Sweet surprise, maybe I could get used to somebody as unusual as you.
