Friday, the day many people regard as one of the best. People usually love Friday because it's the start of the weekend, or maybe because it feels more casual. The day may even anticipate something exciting. Under usual circumstances, Gon would be ecstatic and lively on Fridays, but this time, however, his aura lacked such qualities. The day was well into its first period, and Gon knew something was off. Something was missing. Where is Killua?
Throughout the day, Gon was constantly surrounded by others, yet he couldn't shake his forlorn emotion. Even more unusual, he was barely anticipating lunch despite not seeing his friends Kurapika and Leorio all day. Either way, Kurapika's intuition told him that something was up.
"Gon," Kurapika consoled, "is something wrong? You barely touched your, erm... 'pizza.'"
Leorio glanced towards Kurapika and whispered, "Why would he...?"
"Shut up, he literally likes the school's food." Kurapika muttered back, making sure Gon wouldn't pick up his words.
"Everything's fine," Gon assured, "I'm just tired."
Although Kurapika knew Gon wasn't being completely honest, he didn't continue the conversation, sensing that the conflict would fade on it's own. He motioned to Leorio, "Just give him time."
"So, it worked, didn't it?" Neon snickered.
"I haven't seen him at all, I bet it did." Retz smirked, snapping her fingers at the end of the sentence.
"You're such a dick, you know that?" Neon teased, "How'd you do it, anyways?"
"Well, technically it wasn't me. I just paid an old friend. Didn't matter much to me anyways, I took the money from my brother."
"Oh I know exactly who you're talking about. Blonde with the red imp-shaped phone case, right?" Neon asked.
"You bet," Retz admitted, "seems like he wouldn't want to hurt anyone and yet he can be very malicious."
The last period of the day settled in, and Gon rested in his science seat. He's been perfectly fine these past four days, there's no way he could've spontaneously gotten sick all of a sudden!
Palm was quick to notice Gon's ill train of thought. She didn't know him long, but wanted to help him nonetheless, especially to reimburse him for consoling her earlier. But before she even spoke, Palm felt a sharp and sinister needle pierce through her serenity. Just slightly averting her eyes, she was met with a hostile glare from Retz.
A light breeze caressed Gon's hair as he stood outside in the afternoon. One thing occupied the adolescent's mind as he navigated through his phone to his contacts. To his surprise, Killua called him before Gon got the chance to, and answered the phone without a single hint of hesitation.
"He-"
"Killua! Where were you?" Gon immediately blurted. His tone of voice was an inseparable mix of excitement, anticipation, and concern.
"I- um, can I come over...?" Killua pleaded softly.
"Sure." Gon agreed.
"Thanks, see you soon." The call ended directly after, not even reaching a total runtime of sixty seconds.
Gon reached his home in a reasonable time considering his pace was much faster than usual. It paid off as Killua arrived moments later, eyes directed towards the ground. "Hey! Uh.." Gon greeted excitedly yet awkwardly. Killua looked up and expressed a soft, saddened smile.
The two were soon inside, and Killua flopped onto Gon's mattress, almost as if he was passing out. "So, what's up?" Gon raised forward.
As Killua lay on Gon's bed, his mood hastily changed from depressed and antisocial to feisty frustration. "I got suspended!"
Gon was taken aback by utter shock "What?!"
"As soon as I stepped foot inside the building, the assistant principal pulled me aside. I had to talk to him in his office. At the time I really didn't know what was going on, but then he told me that I 'supposedly' logged into multiple student's school email accounts with malicious intent. I didn't even have a chance to defend myself! He already contacted the IT department and everything somehow points in my direction. Absolute bullshit. I won't be in school this upcoming Monday either."
Gon was left speechless. Between the two of them, nothing made sense. However, he has never seen this side of Killua before. Every time Gon has spoken with him, he either spoke reserved and modest, or casually. Seeing him so aggravated was a new experience, and Gon couldn't bear to see it.
"Someone must have hacked my address or something." Killua went on, "My parents won't even care, but it's just so exasperating!"
"Killua.." Gon comforted, "please, it's okay. Calm down." As he said this, Gon rested his hand on Killua's knee and proceeded to look him in the eye. Killua was met with a pure and endearing expression, causing an indecipherable comfort he never felt nor was exposed to before overtook him. The care and vulnerability in Gon's caramel eyes were enough to put his mind at ease.
"Sorry, I-"
"Don't be sorry! You reacted rationally!" Gon insisted, adjusting himself so he was sitting up straight on his bed. "I want you to know that I'll always be here for you. Please, you're my best friend. Feel free to open your heart to me."
Killua looked down to the floor and scratched the nape of his neck, "Thanks for calming me down."
Gon brought Killua in for a hug, embracing him in an effort to provide much needed affection. "It's Friday, do you wanna maybe... stay here overnight?"
Killua brushed his snowy hair behind his ear, "Well, I have all my stuff here with me. Are you sure it's okay with your aunt?" I know damn well my parents won't care.
"Of course it is! I haven't called her yet, but I can guarantee she'll let you sleep over!"
Killua grinned with a sentimental look in his eyes. "Then I'll be here then."
Gon arched his shoulders and clapped his hands for a brief moment. "Yay!"
"I need to use the bathroom for a sec, I'll be right back." Killua informed.
"Gotcha. I'll call Mito!"
Passing through the kitchen, Killua shuffled through his bag and retrieved a black, unadorned hardcover book, along with a standard black gel pen.
A couple minutes later, the pale adolescent returned to his friend's bedroom only to find a makeshift bed already prepared adjacent to Gon's. "Ah, Killua! She said yes!"
Killua smiled to himself, "Nice!"
"Are you hungry at all?" Gon asked.
"I could eat."
"Meet me in the kitchen! I'll make us sandwiches." Gon decided.
Once in the kitchen, however, Gon immediately noticed something peculiar. A crumpled up paper ball sat in the small, metallic waste bin. I empty this everyday right before I leave. Gon's curiosity usually served to be his inner saboteur. He reached down into the bin, and carefully unraveled the ball only to reveal used notebook paper with various scribbles and cross-outs over the majority of words.
Five days, huh? I'm so... happy. It's nice to have a friend. But, am I getting too attached? I really don't want to be clingy. It's just, he's so nice to me. It's almost like he's the only person on this planet that understands me. I guess I just care about him in a way I haven't felt about anybody before. Best friends. I love him, but like the family I never had. He's a boy anyways. Hope this night isn't disastrous.
The note trails off and becomes unreadable. Gon was lucky enough to read past the cross-outs through the discarded writing, anyways. What is this? Did Killua write a diary entry? Doesn't really matter, but that was nice to read.
