Gon felt the chilly wind of autumn brush against his skin as he walked through the front gates of the school building. To his surprise, he found Kurapika waiting for him near the main entrance.

He greeted with a wave, "Hey Gon, what's up?"

Gon shrugged, "Nothing much."

The pair walked into the building side-by-side, taking their time given that class wasn't set to begin for another few minutes.

"What class do you have first?" Kurapika inquired.

"I think algebra." Gon answered.

"Oh, looks like we won't be seeing each other until third period." Kurapika sighed.

"It's alright, I'll see you then!" Gon lightened, and ran off ahead.

Kurapika let out a slight smile. He turned a corner only to be surprised by Leorio.

Leorio and Kurapika walked together on their way to their first class, and that's when Leorio asked, "Hey, Kurapika, I think I might've made a mistake.."

Kurapika turned with curiosity. "What a surprise." he joked.

"No, I'm actually serious."

"Really? What happened?"

"Well, I know I don't always think things through.. but," Leorio paused, "I may have given Gon's phone number to Palm."

At first, Kurapika didn't think much of it. However, he soon came to the realization that somebody like Palm wouldn't have a sudden desire to talk to Gon after meeting him the same day. Therefore, Kurapika came to a conclusion.

"She was asking for somebody else, wasn't she?"

Leorio sighed. "Probably, but I wouldn't know who."

"Well, whatever the situation, I'm sure it didn't affect him negatively. He seems just fine." Kurapika reassured.

Gon had arrived in algebra class, and Killua was already seated across from him. His pupils were focused on the ground before him, equipped with electric blue wired earbuds. Gon didn't bother getting his attention and decided to just wait until the end of the period.

Soon enough, the class ended, and Gon met Killua outside of the class.

"Hi Killua!" Gon greeted.

"Hey." Killua replied softly.

"What's up? Anything new?" Gon asked.

"Not really," Killua looked to his right and met Gon's gaze, "what about you?"

"I was actually wondering, do you want to sit with me at lunch later?" Gon requested.

"..."

"...Killua?"

"Huh? Oh yeah, um, sure." Killua scrambled, though Gon didn't really notice.

"Great! I have to get to my science glass, but I'll meet you at the bottom of the stairs near the cafeteria, okay?"

"Mhm."

"Alright! Well, see ya later!" Gon started off in his own direction.

Killua remained in his own head once again. Why did I zone out like that? Was it his eyes? No, of course not. That's stupid.

As Gon walked into the room, he spotted Kurapika waiting for him at his designated table. Palm was also there, zoning out. As he sat down, a question rose to the priority of his consciousness. "Where's Retz?"

Kurapika just shrugged while Palm snapped back to reality. "She tends to skip classes sometimes."

"Oh."

Over the course of the period, Kurapika was just minding his own business. Palm, however, appeared to be wrapped up in pensive thinking. She was looking slightly downward, and she wore an expression of sorrow.

"Hey, Palm, is everything alright?" Gon asked, concerned.

She didn't say anything. Instead, she just replied with a nod.

Gon could tell that she was lying, but he didn't bring it up in an effort to avoid unwanted tension. "Just let me know if you need anything."

As he said this, he laid his hand on top of Palm's, which was resting on the countertop. She looked up, and her eyes glistened for a moment, before returning her gaze back down.

"Thanks." she sighed.

Upon the end of the period, Palm stopped Gon.

"Hey, uh, thank you." she smiled.

"Oh, no problem!" Gon beamed, "You don't have to tell me what's wrong if you don't want to."

"It was just a feeling of melancholy, I guess." Palm admitted, "Anyways, be seeing you."

Kurapika went back and met up with Gon, and just then he asked a question. "Hey Kurapika, what does melancholy mean?"

Kurapika scratched the nape of his neck, then responded. "It just means sudden sadness."

"Oh alright," Gon laughed, "by the way, I was wondering if somebody could join us during lunch today."

Kurapika chuckled, "Yeah, of course. They're more than welcome to."

Gon shined a bright smile, "Thanks! I'll see you there!"

Did Palm really open up to him? I guess he's just THAT charismatic, huh?

In a flash, lunch rolled around, and Gon found Killua waiting at the stairs.

"Hey Killua! Are you ready?"

"Mhm."

While they were walking, Gon popped a sudden question. "Hey, where do you usually sit, anyways?"

Killua brushed his hair over his ear. "Um, outside."

"Oh alright. Anyways, here we are!" Gon grabbed Killua's hand, and brought him over to their destination. "Hey Kurapika and Leorio! Meet Killua!"

They exchanged hellos, and overall the conversation was pretty casual. Meanwhile...

"Why is it that big of a deal to you, anyways?" a girl with saturated blue hair asked.

"I just don't want him hanging out with bad influences," Retz answered, "plus he's waaaay better than that, Neon."

"The new kid, right?" Neon asked, "Oh my god wait, don't tell me. Do you like him?"

"NO."

Neon laughed ferociously. "Are you serious? He looks like a literal asparagus."

Retz rolled her eyes at Neon. "I don't like him, okay? He's just got a really charismatic attitude, and I just don't think he should be putting effort into constructing a relationship with a good-for-nothing petty bitch like Killua."

Neon giggled. "Yeah, whatever."

The bell sounded, and everyone got up and started moving. The first thing Gon noticed when he walked along Killua's side was how his mood improved.

"Hey Killua! While we were talking, I thought of something."

"What?"

"When school is over, do you wanna come over to my house?' Gon beamed.

Killua froze. He grabbed his upper arm, "Uhm, I don't think I have to do anything. Sure."

Gon giggled. "Great! Meet me at the school's gates, alright?"

Killua flashed Gon a thumbs-up.
