First night back was Marlene always found it difficult to sleep she often found herself either in the common room or walking through the halls outside the tower
With a sigh she got out off bed and slowly climbed down the many flights of stairs to the common room
As she reached she noticed the undeniable figure of Sirius in front of the fire she stood frozen for a moment before her legs carried her towards him
"Black" she said softly and put a hand on his shoulder to which he jumped slightly
"McKinnon! Hey" he said and moved so she could sit next to him
"Are you okay??"
"Yeah I'm fine just thinking'' she grabbed his face in her hands and ran her thumbs over his cheeks and her eyes moved as though she was observing him and then she slowly spoke still looking over his face
"They didn't- I mean you weren't hurt this time or- um you don't have to tell em obviously-
"Marls it's fine.....no surprisingly I only got into trouble twice this time and a beating once but even that's low on the list so no nothing drastic" he said and looked at Marlene
"And why would you think I wouldn't want to tell you anything??" He asked leaned closer to her
"Nothing i- I just we're not exactly friends" she said above a whisper as she slowly moved closer to him
"Are we not friends??" He asked his face now close to her that she could feel his breath on her cheek
"No I- I'd say we're more or acquaintances won't you??" She said and tilted her head up in a way that he only had to lean towards her
Sirius looked at her for a whole minute and she saw an emotion flash through his eyes an emotion she had never seen on him before as he moved his face closer so their noses were touching and was about to open his mouth to reply
"Pads?? Marly!??" The pair jumped apart and whipped around to see James scratching his head while letting out a yawn
"Everything okay??" James asked as he approached the two
"Yeah I was just heading to bed" Marlene mumbled and stood up
"Oh-
"Night Jamie, Night Black" without waiting for a reply she disappeared leaving behind a confused James and Sirius who was trying his best to put together what happened
"Everything okay Pads??" James asked as he sat down next to Sirius
"Yeah, mate just thinking"
"What did Marlene want??"
"Nothing she wandered down here and we had a chat is all"
"We should probably go up too it's late" James said standing up
