Hello, hello, hello!!
Yes, I'm still here. Yippie!! Anywhoosies, enjoy this short story. I honestly think it's my favourite so far, but you never know. Also, this reminded me so much of Rio.
╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭Also also, actually actually... there's cursing. Yes, bad words. I wanted to try it out - for comedy's sake. I'm being bold here, let me have my moment ಥ‿ಥ. So, don't repeat any of these words to your parents or teachers. Unless you're really badass, then by all means...
Buckle up bois, it's a long one.
"There's going to be an attempted assassination."
The Captain spoke with that authoritative flare he pulled off so well. William stuck his hand into the golden bag and took out another tiny toffee from inside, not paying much attention to the speech.
These candies were good. Normally he hated chewy foods, especially those sticky candies that got stuck in the nook and crannies of your teeth, and then you'd spend hours scratching them out. Those were the work of a demon, made to torture us poor human souls for our darkest sins.
But this, whatever this is, it is the stuff of heaven. A perfect blend of chewy and soft that it melts in your mouth and leaves your tongue sizzling and wanting more. Forget about wine or cigarettes, this was the new addiction.
That was until William found something new to fawn about, but until then...
He zoned out as the Captain continued to drone on. "We have received anonymous intel that there'll be an attempted assassination on one of the marchers during this year's annual parade. Bear in mind, this tip isn't very reliable, and we can't be too sure of its credibility, so I'm sending out a team to go undercover in the parade. Officers Schmidt and Fitzgerald and Detectives Blythe and Afton. Let's give them a round of applause."
Once the room started filling with loud, hearty claps did William wake up from his reverie and realise what was going on. Wait, no, he was still clueless.
"Hey Detective, what's going on?" he whispered to Stephanie, nudging her with his dainty elbows.
"This task won't be easy," announced the Captain, "but I know that if the four of you work together you can surely emerge victorious. It is imperative that you keep within public safety regulations, avoid casualties, and above all, keep your identities a secret. Other than that good luck, and enjoy the parade." He stepped off his podium, making his way to his office as every police man and women went back to their work.
"We were selected to go undercover in a parade," Stephanie told William once the noise and shuffling had died down. He tilted his head.
"Really?"
"Yup."
"A parade. Sounds like fun. I've never exactly experienced one so it ought to be exciting. One thing, though. Why did the Captain say four-"
"Ahem!"
Someone gave a throaty cough, making William and Stephanie turn around. Standing there was Mike Schmidt, arms crossed tightly over his chest. William smirked evilly.
