The three friends ran back to the house and ran inside. There was a note on the coffee table. Ross picked it up.

"What's that?" Roy asked.

"A note from my dad?" Ross replied.

"What does it say?" Robert asked. Ross handed Robert the note. He looked at it confused.

"What's wrong?" Ross asked.

"I don't know what it says." Robert replied, giving the note back to Ross.

"You can't read?" Ross inquired a bit confused. Robert shook his head.

"I can't write either. I never learned how." Robert replied.

"I can read and write." Roy said.

"Yeah that's why I was a little surprised that Robert couldn't. Anyway, the note says that he went back to your house," Ross pointed to Roy when he said that, "and took Kevin with him so they could start bringing your stuff over here since you're going to live here with us."

"Wait, so he just left us here alone?" Robert asked.

"Yeah. He thinks I'm responsible enough." Ross replied.

"My parents didn't trust me at all." Robert stated.

"My mom thought I'd try to escape." Roy said softly.

"Speaking of parents, what did happen to your guys' parents?" Robert questioned.

"Well my mom went to jail for abusing me and I don't remember ever having a dad." Roy replied quietly.

"My mom left us when we I was too little to understand. Once she did I grew up way too fast." Ross responded sadly.

"Is that why your dad trusts you so much?" Robert asked.

"Yeah. In order to have three meals a day I had to learn to cook. I also had to learn how to clean all the rooms in the house to help my dad. I had to protect myself from a break in as well." Ross responded.

"Someone broke in? Who was it? Do you know? Did they steal stuff? Did they hurt you? Did you have to call the police? Are they in jail?" Roy questioned, he was excited again cause he never had anyone to ask this kind of stuff to. Ross smiled a bit at how Roy was excited again and Robert laughed a little.

"Yes someone broke in. It was Kalven and Kallum. They stole like ten dollars. They didn't hurt me, we're actually friends. I didn't have to call the police because they ran into me and I realized it was just them. They didn't go to jail." Ross replied.

"Ka-Kalven and Ka-Kallum?" Robert asked. He looked pretty nervous now instead of curious like Roy.

"Hey, you okay Robert?" Ross asked.

"Kalven and Kallum are my bullies at school because I can't read or write." Robert replied softly.

"They're your bullies?" Ross asked. Robert nodded.

"They hate me. I know they do." Robert said, "And when I'm around them my speech gets really bad. When I'm around people I don't know very well or people I'm afraid of my speech gets really bad."

"How?" Ross asked.

"Like, I stutter a lot and I can't say proper sentences. Like if I met someone new and they asked me what my name was I would usually say something like, 'N-name Robert. A-am eight year o-old. Nice m-meet you.' For some reason it didn't happen when I met you guys." Robert replied.

"Well they're my friends and you're my friend, so they either need to learn to be nice to you or I might need to end our friendship cause no one gets to bully my friends." Ross said.

"Thanks Ross. I'm glad I met you and Roy and I'm glad you guys are my friends." Robert said.

"You're welcome." Ross said. Roy smiled softly.

(I'm sorry this chapter is so short but schools been awful and I can't come up with ideas very quickly due to it. I'm doing my best though. Hope you like what I have for now.)
