let’s create our own world.

one where other people don’t seep through the cracks

and get between our private stares.

we could build mountains,

you and i.

leave the doctors and the mechanics and the engineers

rolling in empty money.

but you and i,

we could build worlds.

we could build emotion.

we could connect souls

like little stepping stones

in a shallow river.

the world could be a carnival,

a sunset,

a magical and wonderful thing.

you and i,

we could have that.

we could smile and open new doors

and laugh as we find cheap little ways to survive.

our private whispers would stay private,

and no one would interrupt the music playing from our hearts.

most people would say that we don’t deserve a world that perfect.

that we haven’t worked for it.

but, you and i,

i think we’d both agree

that beauty lies in that fact.
