After a quick jog, the group can see what looks to be a large colosseum in the distance. The structure uses pristine white marble, creating a beautiful masterpiece with elegant designs. It's architecture is innovative and well thought out, as it was created with the intended purpose of housing multiple uses. A stone floor lays underneath, extending well past the colosseum. If the group had a better view, they would be able to see two more equally large structures. similar in style to Greek buildings. The entire area encompasses about a fifth of the total land.
Private Scott explains,"These buildings were designed and constructed by previous generations of islanders. For the people in architecture, design, and similar professions, these building are like their legacy, with each generation dedicating years to them."
The group walk toward the first colosseum. The area is currently swarming with people, creating a lively atmosphere. People could be heard yelling, advertising events or looking for people to sign up and join competitions. This method was really only to liven up the experience though, as most people would go to a nearby electronic board to get information or to sign up for events.
Although everything seemed messy at a glance, the place had its own order and unspoken rules that were followed, allowing for a comfortable experience. The area was surrounded by seemingly randomly placed combat stages, each one serving a different purpose or activity. Stalls could be seen every once in a while selling different kinds of snacks and drinks.
The group walked through the area, glancing at the different competitions and games, succumbing to the lively atmosphere. Bright smiles appeared on some of their faces, influenced by the fighting spirit of the soldiers on stage. It could clearly be seen why combat sports were so popular.
After walking through the first colosseum, Private Scott took them to a less populated area, at the side of the buildings. Standing on the stone road, Private Scott says,"You have two hours to look around and see if you're interested in anything. Combat Instructors swarm this area, they can almost always be found in the arena no matter the time. People in the combat profession are always looking to improve themselves, and the best way to do that is through training. The sound of fighting can be heard throughout the night, which is one of the reasons it's so far away from the dormitory. We actually used to have temporary cots, so if soldiers overwork themselves and don't have the energy to go back to their dorms, they could sleep there. We eventually scrapped it, because they couldn't sleep through all the noise unless they collapsed, but if that's the case, we usually just leave them on the side."
"the side of what?"
"The road." Private Scott states in a nonchalant manner, accustomed to his own answer.
"...Isn't that a little cruel?" Someone unconsciously voices out.
Private Scott looks at the children,"That's just how things work here. You're going to have to get used to it."
The sudden seriousness of his voice spooks the children. Tih also notices his unnatural behavior and Kai recalls how Private Scott occasionally switches from his usual light-hearted sternness to a more solemn behavior.
Seeing the sudden downcast behavior of the group, Private Scott returns to his light-hearted nature,"Anyways! If you have any questions about a specific weapon or fighting style, it would be most beneficial to find a corresponding instructor. Most instructors are willing to answer basic question, but this is not always the case. Instructors have their own sense of pride, especially the higher ranked they are, so don't be too offended if you get ignored. Oh, and don't try to get on the instructor's bad side. One of the most common way to obtain an apprenticeship is through a sponsor. If an instructor thinks you have ability, they can recommend you to the people in their circle and you'll have a better chance at becoming a student. On the other hand, if you get on an instructor's bad side, they can make use of their connections and completely cut off all your paths. Remember, reputation is important on this island."
