Toya never understood why being called 'talented' was such an insult to you. He was just mindlessly complimenting you. It was an insult because it was like discrediting the amount of effort and time you had put into your development of that skill. You smiled though, because he tried to compliment you. You had to explain and he understood a bit. Why was it so hard to understand?

Well, Toya started to understand when he found a new career plan. Ever since the girlfriend incident, he had wanted to go into a high paying career, not the one he's interested in right now. He had to stay away from the path because it wouldn't pay the bills. It was different. As Toya became better and better at it, he had overcome many hurdles. Such as writer's block. The colleges are quite expensive as well.
Toya soon understood why it felt like an insult when someone complimented him with,"Oh you're so talented I wish I could do that!" He finally understood. His hard work being tossed aside, because it had sounded like they had said he was practically born like this. He wasn't, as much as he wished he were able to be. He wish he was born with talent. Yet, no one is really born with that, it is developed over time.
"I understand now, Y/N."
"Understand what?"
"I understand why being called talented or gifted feels like an insult."
"Ah, yeah. Then why is it an insult?"
"Because it tosses the fact that you did so much hard work to get there."
