the only problem with being seungmin's friend apart from the frequent shots of insults was his inability to tap into his empathetic side.
"so what if jisung wants to meet your dad, that should be a good thing right?" the boy's voice flowing through her airpods. "means he's taking the relationship seriously."
haru sighed, her face boring into her scarce ceiling hugging the squirrel plush her boyfriend had gifted her closer to her chest. it smelt faintly of him. "i don't know, my dad would probably flip if he ever found out that we're dating. he's got trust issues, don't blame him after. i just don't want him to get hurt that's all."
"are you sure he'd go crazy? i mean mr choi doesn't seem like the violent type. he's the person to say sorry to a teddy he dropped."
"i mean not crazy but.." haru trailed off
seungmin eyed her through the call. it pained him to be aware of how she excelled at her studies but burned and crashed when it came to general emotions.
"ru are you worried about your father's feelings getting hurt or your own."
now that one stung. mainly because he was right.
blatantly ignoring his words, the girl changed the subject "it just sucked seeing how hurt jisung was after i said no, why does he even want to see my dad so bad it's not like he's some celebrity."
"well have you asked him why?"
"uhhh..."
"oh my god, you guys suck at relationships!" seungmin groaned out of frustration.
"hey we're new at this." she excused herself shrugging. "i just don't know why he would be so upset over this."
seungmin sighed, he was tired of saving the problem which easily could've been solved if they talked more to each other.
"okay why don't you put yourself in his shoes. his raggedy, sweaty shoes." he began "you're a loser, not an ounce of popularity, probably an inferiority complex and your super pretty popular girlfriend refuses the idea of you meeting her father. now how do you feel?"
he had a way of putting things into perspective especially in a verbally harsh way. the thought of haru unintentionally causing jisung insecurity riddled her body with guilt. all she wanted to do was keep everyone safe but was unaware her choices were only looking after herself.
a hard rattle on the window jolted the resting teenager from her trance of shame. immediately she sat upright, the blood from her head rushing down. she snapped to the sound.
"ru are you oay?" seungmin asked, his voice becoming background noise.
haru didn't reply. startled she slid her feet off her covers and neared towards the origin of the noise and pulled back the lilac curtains.
