She touched his arm, and he turned back to her. She smiled. No words were said, but then again, no words were needed.

They say that once you meet your mate, it's love at first sight. It's a one-of-a-kind love, being mates. You click; you're made for each other. But what do you do after you find them? Chris and Lily stayed in the hospital and got to know each other. Silas took Tessa out multiple dates, the two of them working their way to what they were. But for every couple, it's different. Especially this couple. How do you get to know your mate when she can't talk? Austin, of course, didn't know this yet. He just thought she had been rendered speechless in the shock of finding her mate. He, on the other hand, babbled nervously.

"I know it's a lot, and it's going to take some getting used to, and I don't really know what to do now. So, uh, why don't we go out to, um, eat? No, it's too soon. I'm sorry, I-" Alex shushed him by putting a finger to his lips. She smiled, though, so he felt a little better. Her eyes glazed over - she was mind linking someone. He stared, confused, as she spoke with someone in her mind. Who was she talking to?

When she was done, she just smiled at him and led him to the bench he'd been sitting on earlier. After a few moments, the door to the pack house opened, and none other than Jason Nite stepped out. Austin's heart sank. Of course he'd have to compete with him.

"Alpha Austin," Jason bowed his head in respect.

"Jason." He gave Jason a small nod.

"So, Red, what's going on?"

Austin's wolf snarled at the pet name. He should be the one to call her cute nicknames, not Jason. Jason and the girl's eyes glazed over as they linked each other. It was odd. What was she hiding that she needed to link him?
Come to think of it, she hadn't spoken at all since they met. Either she was hiding something, or didn't trust herself to speak. He was suspicious now. "Okay, what's going on?" Austin voiced his concern. The glaze over their eyes broke, and Jason glanced at him.

"I'll be right back. And I'll take the boys out for dinner or something." He nodded to himself before turning on his heel and walking back through the door.

Austin turned to the girl. "What was that about?" But she just shook her head and motioned for him to wait. He started to get frustrated. But then Jason emerged, followed by two redheaded boys and a blonde girl. He nodded to the girl beside Austin before leaving with the other three.

The girl stood and made her way to the door, Austin scrambling to follow. She led him all the way up the stairs and to her room on the guest floor without saying a single word. He lost it once she sat on the bed and just looked at him.
"Okay, I don't mean to be rude, but what's with you? We meet and you don't say a word. You mind link Jason, who's... what? Your boyfriend? Am I going to have to compete with him for your affection? And for Goddess' sake, say something!"

She looked down and opened something in her hand. It had a rectangular shape, but he couldn't quite tell what it was. Then she picked up something else. A pencil. She was holding a notepad. Without looking up at Austin, she hastily began to write. After a moment, she handed it to him.

Listen here, it read. You ever insult me like that again, and I will rip you a new one. Did it ever occur to you that I haven't spoken for a reason? Probably not. I hope you're not one of those alphas who lets the power go to his head. Now, before you ask, I am mute. Not by choice, but by force. And my relationship with Jason is none of your concern. Now, let's start over, shall we? I'll answer on the notepad. :)

"I-" Austin stammered. "I'm sorry. I didn't know. I... I didn't mean to insult you..." He handed the notepad back. She smiled and mouthed 'it's okay.' He thought for a moment. Then he said, "I guess we should get to know each other. What's your name?"
