I looked in the mirror one last time and took one last deep breathe. No matter what I do I can't avoid the fact that there's still a crack in my heart from Dallas. When he kissed me, all those feelings came back like salt in the wound. The things I once buried so deep inside were dug up once again. Dallas barely changed since I left, while I grew up for the most part physically and mentally. I brushed out my hair one last time as I heard the faint ring at the door.
"Hey" I opened up the door to a happy face of a boy who had no idea what I've just done.
"Hey Clairbear!" He smiled widely as he grabbed me softly by the waist and kissed my forehead.
My heart ached even more seeing how much he cares and the excitement in his eyes. Oh how I want things to work out with James, but Dallas being here hasn't helped me one bit. James was always looking out for me before himself. I love James, I truly do.
"Is everything okay?" He looked down at me in worry.
"Yeah," I shook my head out of my thoughts. "I'm just tired from unpacking and setting everything up."
"Oh, you know you could've waited and I would've been happy to help you." The corner of his lips went up as he placed his hands on both sides of my shoulders.
It was that one look that he gave me. That's all it took for me to grab him by the neck and bite his bottom lip with mine. He was alarmed at first, and I could tell at first he was wondering why this was happening so fast. Though, he gave into the thought that maybe it was just me missing him for that short week.
"Maybe we should go get some dinner." He pulled back breathlessly.
"Yeah" I nodded as I walked down the hall and into the kitchen.
All through dinner I made slight comments and responses. I shared with him how my mother was always working as the only main conversation of the night. every now and then he'd place his hand on mine and compliment me in some way or another.
"Can I ask you something?" He lowered his gaze too mine as I stared down at my plate.
"Yeah?" I looked up at him in faint.
"What happened?"
"What do you mean?"
"What happened this week? You're distant and quiet." His words came out in soft tones of concern.
"Nothing really" I sighed as I saw his emotions still not satisfied with my reply. "I ran into some old friends, that came with some old memories."
"Clara," His voice rang as he placed his hand on mine. "do you want me here?"
"Of course I do!" I shot my head up. "What makes you think I don't?"
"I just want you to comfortable. I don't want you to rush into things you may not be ready for."
"I want this." I smiled looking at him in longing. "I want to live my life with you here, or anywhere as long as I'm with you."
"Are you sure?" His voice caring and gentle.
"Positive." My voice smiled in a sign of hope. But before my eyes could process what was happening he was to the side of my chair holding my hand.
"I love you Clara. I've loved you since the moment I laid my eyes on you." My heart sank as I saw him reach in his pocket. "Will you do me this honor?" He said fiddling the ring in between his two fingers. For a moment I saw the same hope in his eyes that I once saw with Dallas.
"Yes."
