Dallas saved me from the biggest mistake I could have ever made. At first I thought he only said he loved me because he didn't want me to jump, but I realized that night that he really meant it. School ended a few days ago, and my mother suggested to volunteer at the hospital as a candy striper. So from five to seven thirty in the afternoon I work.
"Hey Violet," A doctor came out into the hallway I was in at the time. "Can you take this packet to room 247? Its just a patient who's been in a coma for the past couple months, so you don't need to worry about making small talk."
"Okay" I smiled as I grabbed the packet and started towards the room.
I walked in the silent room as a curtain surrounded the patient. I quietly opened the curtain and crept in putting the packet in the slot. I glanced up at the weak body attached to all the machines. My heart dropped looking at the tan face. I yanked the packet from the slot looking for his name.
Johnny Cade
"What?" My eyes danced across the paper. Johnny's dead, this makes no sense.
"Miss?" I heard a voice from behind me.
"I'm so sorry."I turned around to see a nurse.
"Do you know him?"
"Only in stories." I turned back to look at his delicate healing body.
"He was in the newspaper awhile back ago. Saved some children out of a burning church."
"I heard"I put the packet back and walked towards the door.
"Oh and Miss," I stopped before I walked out. "Don't speak of Mr. Cade to anyone outside the hospital. His parents asked to keep it quiet."
"Oh, okay." And with that I walked out not knowing how to feel. Johnny Cade came back from the dead. He was still alive.
