"No, no, that's not it. You don't understand!" Keiji yelled, his voice shaking from pure frusteration.

"Listen, Keiji, you're the one who doesn't understand. Stay out of this mess, kids aren't supposed to be meddling in adult affairs. Go to your room, shut the door and come back down when you're going to listen to reason." Mr. Akaashi grumbled.

"Darling, speak for yourself." Mrs. Akaashi's words were laced with venom, she turned to face Mr. Akaashi. "Either you pay child support or you raise one of the kids. If you aren't going to pay the bare minimum, have a nice life with Keiji, alright? I'm leaving with Kanako."

Keiji's heart seemed to be in his throat, his brain, and his finger tips. He could feel his blood pulsing quicker than before. His head hurt from the thoughts running endlessly through his mind. He looked into his mother's eyes, then his fathers without faltering. His vision flickered. His gaze spoke of pure anger. Hatred, even.

"You guys are insane. You're exactly alike, everything you do. The way you bicker. You just take different sides so you can bicker, just for the fun of it. You have nothing better to do." Keiji's head tilted to the side subtly. His eyes widened. The corners of his mouth seemed to tug themselves upwards.

"Keiji, don't you dare group me in with your father. I never wanted this marriage." She seethed.

"Why is everything I do so wrong? Let me live! It's not like you guys are filthy rich like those brats at school. They go to public school just to show off their daddy's money." His tone almost seemed giggly.

"Mom, don't lie, when you're feeling happy after dad bought you something a bit more expensive than usual, you're telling these shit stories. 'Oh, I had so many suitors back then, but your father stood out to me the most. To be frank, I didn't know his real age for quite a while.'" Keiji spoke in a mocking tone.

"'When I found out he was so young, I gasped so loudly then tried to make him not like me anymore but that little son of a bitch wouldn't take no for an answer.'"

"What the fuck was that supposed to mean? You just wanted someone younger so they could idolize you. But no, now that he learns what you've really been talking about and doing, he's done with your bullshit." Keiji could hear his father scoffing behind him. He faced his father.

"Why do you do this so much? It's getting repetitive, you know."

"Don't act like the victim, 'my mother', your wife, is seven years older than you! When she was studying multiplication in grade school, you weren't even born. Maybe it would've been better if you weren't born in the first place. Two fuckers fucking without protection, you know?"

Keiji's father punched him square in his face.

"Shut up, I make the money, everything you see right now is from my money."

That didn't stop him. After all, mental pain always hurts more than physical. He chuckled.

"Making money like a machine, every day for years until the day they die is the man's job right?"

"Keiji, we're sorry, stop this now." His mother said, trying to place a hand on his shoulder.

He smacked it away. "Don't touch me, since when have you tried to comfort me? The way I try to choke my sobs down until I'm most literally choking and dying."

"Since when have you listened to me, huh?" His voice was quieter now. "You never listen unless you need advice from your child. You rant to me all the time from the kitchen while I'm sitting at the counter."

"The next day you go, 'you know I was on the phone. I don't think you saw the earbuds'. It's so funny how you all think I'm absolutely deaf, blind and stupid!" He snickered then grinned.

"You know it hurts me too, I'm not some NPC in your life that's supposed to just listen to everything you say. It's not just you in this house, you know. I didn't want this. 'Stay out of it', you all say, yet use me as your little messenger boy. 'Tell your father to ask for a raise, we're struggling too, you know', or 'tell your mother to do the laundry right, my shirt is wrinkled.'"

"All of this goes deeper than laundry and money, you guys know that because you guys are the root of the problem! Why can't you see? It's tiring, for me, for you and you." He pointed a shaking finger at them.

Akaashi's fingernails suddenly ripped at his neck. He wanted to disappear, to die.  Who cares if it's the easy way out? Everyone likes easy.

"You guys both dropped out of college. Mom, you dropped out of business, seriously? It's not that hard, you were busy staring at yourself in every mirror and wearing the shortest skirts. Dad, you dropped out of college once, and you decided to 'get it together' for what? For mom? She might as well been a milf in your eyes. She only needed some kids as props. All of that porn you watch, dad, it's literally getting to you." He taunted.

"Mom, do I have to be smiling for every second of the day? You call yourself an adult then flirt with the lifeguard at my swim team. Once my brows move out of their place and furrow just a tiny bit from all of the stress, it's disgusting in your eyes isn't it? How ungrateful I am."

"You guys are no adults. Can you not think past the first two steps? Marriage, hah! Fucking give me a break, please."

"I'm tired,"

Akaashi stared at his reflection. His eyes were puffy and bloodshot but still held a cold look to them. His neck had purple bruises. He could taste the salty, metallic tang of blood. He swallowed and sighed. He laughed to himself dryly.

"Ah, fuck this."

He finally closed his eyes.

The corners of his mouth twitched upwards.
