INT. LUKE'S DINER. DAY

The diner looks empty. Some people are at the bar eating and Caesar is coming in and out from the kitchen. Luke comes in. He is wearing elegant clothes, very different from the usual. He looks a little worried.

Caesar:

Hey Luke! Nice suit!

Luke:

Hi Caesar. Thanks!

Caesar goes to the kitchen but they keep talking.

Caesar:
(loud) Looking elegant today! Any important date?

Luke:

Yeah, I went to the bank, you know. Make some papers. So any news?

Luke goes behind the bar.

Caesar:

Jimmy came!

Luke:

Who?

Caesar:

Jimmy, our bread supplier?

Luke:

Oh yeah, Jimmy. What did he say?

Caesar:

He said you are a little behind with some bills.

Luke:

I've been a little distracted. I guess I forgot about him.

Caesar:

Well, he said if you don't pay you should better learn how to bake your own bread!

Luke:

Don't worry, I'm on it. Anything else?

Caesar comes out from the kitchen with two plates for people at the bar.

Caesar:

Yeah, April called. She said she'll call you later.

Luke:

I'd better call her right now.

Caesar:

She said something about a scholarship I think.

Luke:

Thanks Caesar.

Luke takes out his cellphone. He dials April's number.

Luke: (cont'd)

Hey April, it's me. (Pause) I miss you too kid. How you've been? (Pause) Say hello to your mom. (Pause) Yeah, I know I'm a little out of date (Pause) Everything is fine, there's a lot going on right now and I just got a little behind (pause) Don't worry, everything is ok. (Pause) You won't have to quit the MIT (pause) No, you don't need to sell your blood or your kidney! (Pause) I appreciate you want to get a job but I told you I could pay for it and I will! Trust me! (Pause) So, you are still coming at the end of summer? (Pause) Yeah I'm also looking forward to it! (Pause) Ok, see you then. I love you too. Bye

Luke hangs up his phone. He looks worried.

Luke:

Hey Caesar, where did you say you put those bills?

Caesar:

At the back, in the office!

Luke goes off scene.

INT. THE GAZETTE. DAY

Rory is at her desk, writing on her computer. On the desk we see a wood sign which says "Rory Gilmore Editor". Esther, as always, is filing papers and Charlie is at the back, apparently sleeping. Rory's phone is on the desk. The phone rings. It's Paris.
