3 months had passed, I fully succumbed to the charms of my new friends. I grew close with young Petra who genuinely was the kindest person I've met, and Hange, given we shared a similar interest in science and invention. Engineering weapons was where my interests lay which is what propelled me into joining the Garrison under the Engineering Corp in the first place.

My uncle makes and repairs firearms for a living. When I was younger, he would show me how to take apart and reassemble guns and crossbows. He taught me how to use a gun behind my mother's back for when he goes out with his hunting party leaving us defenseless until his return.

I'd say Petra, Eld and I became good buddies, we just clicked well. On ther other hand, Gunther, Oruo and I had a very tumultuous, banter-filled but friendly relationship. They were like an annoying little brothers. As for Captain Levi, he was much more quiet and reserved than the rest. We made small talk here and there, and that's about it.

"How do you do it?" Petra asked as she watched me from the tree above, swinging her legs off the edge of the tree branch.

"Do what?"

"You're a good shot and excellent with blades? How are you so good? Why are you so good?"

I plucked the arrow from the target, shaking my head. "The target becomes clear as day when I imagine someone or something I hate," I said bluntly as I nocked the arrow and drew my elbow back.

"Oh? Who do you hate so much?"

I aimed the arrow at the bullseye, a picture of the man I hated the most forming in the centre. As if a pin had snapped into place, I let the arrow fly, splitting his skull open.

I breathed out. "My father," I replied, peering up at her. She shivered.

"That's grim."

"Well, he's not exactly the nicest person in the world. A little bit of grim would do the world better."

"You're playing judge, jury and executioner. It's a dangerous line to toe. What did he do to make you hate him so much? I mean, he's still your family; what did your dad do that is so bad for you to think of murder?"

I shot another arrow; this time, the arrow split the other right down the middle. "I don't want to talk about it," I said, shutting down the conversation as I nocked another arrow. I was reminded of what my father had done to me every night when I close my eyes. I didn't need another reason to talk about it.

"Now that I think about it, you never talk about your family."

"Petra, I said I-"

"You don't want to talk about your family. Yes, I heard you once, and I'm not going to push it. But if you ever need to talk, we're here for you."

"Thank you, but I'm fine." I sent another arrow soaring across the field, planting its sharp vertex close to the bullseye.

Petra jumped down from the branch, landing flawlessly in front of the target. She pulled out the arrow and waved it. "The target didn't do anything wrong. Let's not kill it, shall we?" She placed the arrow back into the quiver, then taking the bow away from me.

"Come on, we've spent enough time outside. Let's go clean up before the expedition meeting." She dragged me e along with her. "You take way too long in the shower anyway," she complained to herself, "What do you even do in there?"

Throughout the meeting, we talked about formations and where our poses would be. Our budget was approved last week. The mission this time around was to retrieve important documents left behind in one of the richer districts within Wall Maria.
