A/N: Trigger warning. There are topics  discussed here that are relatively heavy and it constitutes a reminder to put yourself first. This is just a story; and I'd rather you take a step back if topics of abuse and sexual assault triggers you. You are important and that's all that matters, take care~~

"I heard you refused medical attention," Levi said, leaning against the doorframe.

"I did." Y/N confirmed, carefully and slowly tugging off her jacket.  The jacket fibres had stuck onto the wound. The slightest movement felt like she was ripping her skin off. She groaned at the stinging pain.

"Why? Get it treated, before it gets infection, you idiot."

"No."

"Why the fuck not?"

"It's not a big deal," she lied, avoiding eye contact with Levi. She turned her head away, hiding her wince in her throbbing.

"Stop being a stubborn and get it treated now," Levi ordered, not understanding why she refused to do so.

"I said no, Levi!"

He clenched his jaw. "Then give me a valid reason why. Your fucking shoulder is cut open, stabbed by a throwing knife! It looks like a fucking murder with how much blood you're losing! Don't give me the "it's not a big deal bullshit"! "

She shot him a dirty look, unable to argue back because he was right.  "I prefer treating my own wounds."

Levi rolled his eyes. "Somehow that's the lowest level of bullshit excuse I've ever heard leave your mouth, brat."

"Look, I just don't like having my upper body exposed to people, okay?" Y/N told him truthfully.

"Mind if I ask why?" Levi pushed. The answer was not good enough for him to justify her persistent defiance.

She sighed and stood up. "Shut the damn door."

He slammed the door shut, arms crossed. He wasn't going to be nice if she was going to continue acting like a child.

"Turn around," she said.

"Why?" he grumbled.

"Just fucking do it, Levi."

He shuffed but did as she requested. Y/N carefully pulled her blood-stained shirt over her head, biting down the pain. The cool wind kissed her exposed back, providing some relief to the wound.  She held the blood stained top against her chest. "Okay."

Levi held his breath, taking in the horror that laid before him. Some humans ironically are devoid of humanity. Some times, some humans deserve death by a blade, similar to those of Titans.

Her back was ruined with scars upon scars crisscrossing. He had seen enough battle scars before, but this, this was something else. Speechless, he could only stare at the damage on her back, letting the picture of it engrain in his mind. The gash on her shoulder had suddenly seem so insignificant compared to the scars.

"What happened?" Levi asked taking a step forward. It had sounded like a low growl. Y/N shook, the memory of her torture written on the skin of her back.

"What happened, Y/N?" He asked turning her around to face him.

"It was punishment for scarring my face," she whispered. He stood dumbfounded. He didn't know if he had heard her right and if he did, he didn't know what to make of it.

"My father only took me in to be married off to my half-brother. They wanted a pure bloodline. I knew in a society like that beauty and money is king, so I scarred my face in hopes to avoid getting married to my brother." her voice cracked. It took a lot to make sure her courage did not falter infront of someone she trusted enough to give her heart to. She laughed. Even to her the words that came out of her mouth seemed ridiculous. She ran a finger down the scar.

"They broke the arm that did it and called it a freak accident. They took me away to be 'treated'. And during the treatment months, they stripped me and whipped me to the bone, let the wound heal up, and whip me again and again and again; punishment for being a defiant, ungrateful, spoiled bastard.

They only stopped because I mutilated the face of the man who forced himself onto me while I was bound. I broke his fingers off one by one and permanently took away his ability to rape anymore children. When my father found out what I had done, he sent me away to be killed.

They couldn't have the news of a psychotic bastard child run wild in their community. But one of the MPs assigned to kill me, let me go. He told me to run, to go to the Training Corps. He said I'd be safe there. He had a baby of his own coming. And he couldn't kill the child of the woman who bore his child."

She wrapped her hands around herself. A single tear trickled from her eye.

"I still feel their dirty hands on my skin touching me at places—" she choked on a sob as the shame, guilt, and humiliation came flooding back. There was a reason to why she spent longer times in the shower than anybody else. There are times in the shower when she had washed herself until her skin was red and raw, only then did the feeling of being dirty had washed away.

Levi gently grabbed her chin, forcing her to look in his eyes. "It wasn't your fault. None of this is," he said.

She broke. The pain she had kept in for so long was overbearing. Levi opened his arms, offering a hug. She wrapped her arms around his body, burying her face into his chest as she cried.

Levi scooped up her trembling body, holding her to his chest. He took her seat on the bed overlooking the view of the city and just held her there while his fingers combed through her hair, soothing her.

"They can't hurt you, love," he reassured, "Not while I'm here. I'll make sure of it."

Levi stayed until she had no energy left to cry. He left for a moment and came back changed out of his uniform, carrying a tray of tea and a medical kit clamped under his arm.

"Lie down. I'll fix your shoulder," he said placing the tray down. She didn't argue and looked away as he cleaned the wound and treated it with medicine. Y/N bit down on a yelp as the wound burned from the antiseptic. He wrapped up the wound smggly and turned away to let her change init something more comfortable and breathable.

That night, he stayed with her until she fell asleep curled up next to him. Sleeping next to her, Levi how vulnerable she was; yet to have lived through what she had and still do her best to show up everyday was commendable.

She's strong. He thought. So strong. He ran a finger down her scar. At least it led you to me.

"I'll promise you a happy life, Y/N," he whispered. She snuggled closer to him . Her hands gripping his shirt tightly.

"I promise to treat you right."
