The ground was hard and cold. The steady splat of water dripping from the tall ceiling sent Y/N's heart racing. Where was she? She tipped her head up, hands shielding her eyes from the imminent piercing white glow— the only source of light.

Her hands were filthy, covered in mud and blood. Her nails were worn down to the bed, bleeding. The walls around her closed in. It was peppered with blood and scratch marks.

Her heart raced to catch a breath.

This wasn't happening.

"This isn't real," She reminded herself. "You're dreaming, Y/N!" The walls closed in more. She couldn't breathe.

"Wake up!"

Her hands spanned out in an attempt to stop the walls from further tightening. "Wake up, goddammit!"

"WAKE UP!"

.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.

"Oi idiot! Wake up!" A thunderous bolt vibrated through Y/N's frame, jolting her awake. She was so tired from the lack of sleep and excessive output of energy; she hadn't noticed she dozed off sitting against a pillar while the Commander and his Section Commanders worked together to chart and take note of the route. She pinched the bridge of her nose, the biting headache returning.

"How long was I out?" she murmured at the man looming above her,  his silhoutte blocking the afternoon sun.

"10 to 15 minutes tops." The Captain let out a disapproving tch, scowling down at her. "You've got some balls to take a fucking nap in titan territory."

Y/N got up, keeping her head down. "Sorry... I didn't mean to fall asleep..."

"Don't do it again, you might never wake up," Levi scolded. "Get ready. We're heading out."

"Yes, sir," Y/N obliged, holding her fist to her heart in salute until the Captain sauntered off. Y/N wanted to kick herself for falling asleep on the job. "Good fucking work, dumbass," she muttered to herself. She could smell the repercussions she would rightfully have to face when—no, if she got back alive.

The scouts prepared to move out as soon as all the camp supplies and soldiers were accounted for. "Keep your eyes open and head in the game. Don't die out there, Scheider," Levi firmly reminded. A soldier with her calibre was too valuable to die out there.

She nodded. Levi could see she was still shaken up. Even though he understood the magnitude of dreams and nightmares, he needed her to remain focus..

They departed for the safety of Wall Rose as soon as everyone, and things were accounted for. They didn't ride for too long when the world had stopped around them. The birds ceased singing their song, the insects paused their rhythmic buzzing, and even the wind held a breath as the soldiers rode through a desolated village.

The village was a good setup where it benefited the scouts given the freedom to use their ODM gear in light of a titan attack. Miche's sensitive nose caught a whiff, a scent... his eyes opened wide, alarmed, as he whipped his head to the left. "TITANS!" he barked a warning, sending red smoke to the air alerting the people close to him.

"ELD! TO YOUR LEFT!" A soldier roared as a titan sprinted towards them, crushing the ruins in its way.

Eld, Gunther, and Y/N sprang into action, narrowly dodging the approaching titan. However, for an ill-fated scout member, the titan clamped its wide mouth around its torso.

"Gunther! Y/N! Distract it!"

Y/N whirled around its feet, cutting the titan's Achilles tendons open, demobilizing it, buying time. It swayed, plummeting to its knees, giving Gunther the chance to cut the giant's jaw open from one ear to the other, liberating the soldier. He pulled the injured man out of its mouth and made a dash for it across the roof towards the medic wagon. Eld plunged down, delivering the killing blow.
