"Scouts! Move out!" Erwin Smith commanded as Wall Maria's gate rose high enough for the company of Scouts to slip through comfortably.

"Try not to get left behind again, Scheider," said Levi, "The higher-ups will likely be more than happy to let you be titan shit after that stunt you pulled."

While observing their training sessions, Commander Erwin had noticed that Levi's and Y/N's techniques were like lock and key. The way they moved was ridiculously in sync. Their techniques never repelling one another; instead, they work together to deliver something more powerful and efficacious. Erwin wanted to test that theory out on the expedition.

They rode fast, keeping in formation, and remained attentive for smoke signals. "Titans to the left!" One of the communication scouts warned a handful of red smoke signals ensued. The message relayed to Commander Erwin, following the trail of green smoke signaling a shift in route to avoid confrontation.

"No!" A female shrieked before her cries filled the air as the Abnormal sprinted towards her at an incredulous speed. It snatched her off the horse, giving way for the other monsters to join in the torment of the young girl. The titans ripped her apart, her dying screams echoing in the wind. They devoured her, leaving nothing but ripped flesh and clothing. The male riders barely meters away knew they were next. Frightened to move from their horses, they howled for help.

Y/N looked back, unable to ignore the desperate call for aid. "Titans on our rear!" She notified, witnessing the dismemberment of her comrade. She prayed and hoped Levi would show a little empathy, even though they were not part of Levi's squad.

"Take the two ugly shits on the left; the three on the right is mine," he ordered, against Erwin's orders of avoidance lest engagement.

"Yes, sir!"

They rode at godspeed to save the soldiers being crushed under the grimy fingers of the titans. Y/N stood on Sol's back as they advanced the titan and shot the hooks on the side of the titan's body, maneuvering around the impending gargantuan hand. She swung her body mid-air, gas keeping her afloat. Her blade went through the titan's wrists cleanly, keeping her from its grasps. The titan bellowed in pain as she flew higher, aiming to blind the eyes. The titan reeled back following the successful attack. Then, using the momentum gained, she circled around and sliced its nape cleanly.

She took down the 7-meter as swiftly as she did with the 4-meter. Having taken down the two, she assisted Levi acting as a diversion while he finished off the remaining titan. They helped the injured up onto their horses, beckoning the horses to ride forth.

The ground rumbled and shuddered. A 12-meter stormed towards the two soldiers with its arms flailing around. They wouldn't be able to outrun the titan. It was faster and much more efficient to get rid of this monster. They agreed to attack coming from both sides, keeping in mind either of them will be titan bait. Y/N latched herself to a nearby tree and propelled her body into the air the same time Levi did on the other end.

The Abnormal reached out for the girl, ignoring the captain, its mouth wide open. She gasped. Thinking back to how Levi had moved earlier, she flipped the blade around, the blade's hilt facing forward. She quickly unhooked and anchored herself to the Titans forehead. She lunged forward, careening down in a spin. A puff of gas gave her just enough force and speed for her blades to hack through thick flesh and bone, leaving the titan's outreached hand severed into pieces. Spurs of blood gushing out, staining her clothes red. At the same time, her act had bought Levi just enough time to land on the back of its head and cut through the nape.

The two jumped off the cadaver of the freshly killed titan. A whistle brought their stallions to the bottom of the dead titan's feet.

"Not bad at all, Scheider!" Levi's praised, "Though you're filthy!"

"Keeping clean isn't exactly on the top of my priority list right now, sir!" She remarked as they rode forward to meet their group.

It didn't take too long before they had finally regrouped with the rest. The group rode further out into the open world, drawing to a stop at a deserted village to allow the horses to rest. They had made it a little further than the last expedition.

The vast green lands had seemed endless, the air fresh and crisp, unlike the stuffy air enclosed within the walls. Y/N wondered what life would be like beyond the borders titan-free.

The deafening screams of the dying and dead still rang in her ears. Those that were eaten were deemed 'missing' their remains to never reach their families. Yet, it was better and less painful than bringing home bits and pieces of their bodies. She watched the teenagers mourn the sacrifice of their comrades.

These families would never get the closure they deserve. She thought.

"Oi Scheider, where did you learn that trick?" Levi asked, stepping in front of her, bringing her awareness back to her surroundings.

Y/N cocked her head in confusion, "You?" she said as a matter of factly, "Who else fights like that except for you, Captain?"

He lowered his gaze to the soldier, pinning her down with the intensity of it. "I would remember if I taught you shit." He crossed his arms, annoyed, though he didn't show it, at her blunt answer. Y/N stood up, dusting the dirt off her green cloak.

"Didn't need to captain. You may be superhuman, but I am super observant," Y/N explained, "It's a habit." She sighed, mustering the courage to ask, "It's not an easy technique to master, which is why... I would love to learn from you officially, of course."

He hitched a breath, lifting his chin, contemplating an answer. He knew her as a determined soldier who loved nothing more than a challenge  to which he found her quite charming with how open-minded she was; but she could be undeniably reckless and overconfident at sometimes.

He considered mentoring the girl, but he wanted to know what kind of person she was, wanted to tease her, get her to come to him and reveal her true potential. "No," he teased.

Her keen smile dropped with her hands. She pouted, annoyed. "Oh, you suck, Captain. You absolutely do!" she whined in retaliation. Levi bit back a smile.

"Make it back alive this expedition, and I will think about it," he added, flicking her forehead. She stumbled back, holding her forehead. A small "ow, shit" escaped her lips. Many times, she was flicked in the forehead before, but it was never this painful. It felt like her skull was going to split into half.

What kind of water does this mean drink to be this damn strong?! She glared at him, hunched over, as the captain walked away, proud of the damage he had done to her forehead.

"What's wrong with you?" Gunther asked, a tinge of worry in his voice as he watched her face scrunched up in pain.

"Humanity's strongest finger flick," she writhed, the middle of her forehead pulsating and swollen. Gunther held his stomach, crying out in laughter at the surely swelling red spot on her forehead.

"Shut up!" she grumbled, massaging her forehead.

"It's so bad!" Gunther wheezed unable to breathe from his undying laughter.
