Even with her chores and busy schedule, it became a habit for Y/N to visit the Captain's study whenever she had free time. First it was once every few days, and then twice; like a bug attracted to flame, she found herself wandering around the Captain's study, eventually she'd knock on that door.

There were times when she was busier than usual; those were the rare days that the Captain would pay her a friendly visit instead. Whether it was to ask for help or drop by for a causal conversation, she appreciated it.

Tonight, he had enlisted her help with his workload given tomorrow's event. While drafting an invoice, she couldn't help but notice the frown on his face out of the corner of her eye. "Why do you look so glum tonight?" she asked.

"Tomorrow's unofficial excursion beyond Wall Rose for wall maintenance." Though it wasn't a full on, well prepared expedition, it would yet be another day where their lives hung in a literal thread. The best and most healthy of the remaining soldiers were assigned to the front lines keeping the Titan's at bay while the Engineers worked on maintaining the Gate.

It was yet another day that the numbers of the scouts may dwindle. It was difficult to shoulder the burden of lost lives, and it...it troubled him. Having developed a bond with someone he regarded as a friend and more, he didn't want to bury another person he cared about.

"I see..."

There was heavy tension in the air. Levi looked up from his papers deciding right there and then to put his selfish desires first. "Live," he ordered.

"Hmm?"

"I'd like to have another bowl of potato soup with you sometime after our mission, can't do that if you're in a Titan's belly."

She was caught off guard. She never expected that question, out of all questions. She readjusted in her seat and sat up straight, clearing her throat as she felt her cheeks warm up. "Um..."

"If you have a significant other, I understand that I'm not respecting your privacy. It's fine if you don't want to." He waved off his odd request.

"Huh?" She was even more dumbfounded. "Sir, what kind of person do you think I am? If I were taken, I wouldn't be spending a good chunk of my nights here voluntarily."

"Tch," he drew his focus back to the papers in front of him, his bottom lip sticking out ever so slightly.

"Are you pouting?" she teased, giggling.

"I'd rather be eaten by a titan than caught pouting, brat," he snapped. She burst out laughing.

"Whatever you say, big guy." She pushed back and stretched. "If there's nothing else left to do, I'm gonna hit the hay."

"Sleep well," he wished flipping through the page.

"Get some sleep, you'll need the energy tomorrow!" she scolded.

"I'll finish this up, first."

"Your first of many," she corrected jokingly. He sent her a friendly glare for calling him out in his overworking habits. "And, Levi," she called bringing his attention back to her. "Consider it a date. Stay alive till then, I'll look forward to it. Don't worry about me too much tomorrow, I'll live," she reassured. "And really, don't work yourself to death, please get some rest."

"I will. Goodnight, brat."

"Night, old man."

Y/N looked ahead, the vast blue sky seemed so serene, pillowy clouds peppered the sky sitting idly amongst the rays of the warm sunlight. The sky stretched beyond the Walls and it made the woman wonder what beautiful things may beyond the Walls...and where these man-eating Titans came from. Her eyes dropped down to the chaos below.
