It's Just You, Me And The Loading Screen

The Past

I sat at the library table surrounded by my three best friends, Carina, Anna-Lea and Stella, we always spent our lunch breaks here, out of the usual cold Swedish weather. They all chatted away, I listened in, commenting and laughing every now and then, I had always been the quiet one in our group, except when it was just me and Anna-Lea. She was my very best friend, we'd grown up together, I could completely be myself around her.

"Oh yeah, everyone, I have a surprise for you all" Stella announced with a playful grin spreading over her face. My friends had been studying English since our first year in high school and they often practiced here in the library. I had grown up speaking both Swedish and English because my father is originally from Australia, he traveled to Sweden to study and met my mother at Gothenburg University.

I was curious to know what Stella's surprise was "What do you mean?".

"You'll find out in a second" Her eyes looking at the entrance between the book shelves. I looked to Carina and Anna to see if they had any clue what was going on but they both looked as confused as I was. I turned to try and see what Stella was looking at, there where two boys walking toward our table, I had seen them both before around school, they where in the year above us.

"Are those guys coming over here?" I whispered so they wouldn't here, pulling my school jacket closer around me, meeting new people wasn't easy for me, I always felt awkward around someone I didn't know. Stella's grin grew wider the closer they got to us until it became the biggest, goofy smile I had ever seen. I looked back over to the boys, the short one with brown hair I didn't really know but the other I had seen a lot of, we lived in the same neighbourhood and caught the same bus to school but all I really knew about him was his name, Felix. I didn't realize I was staring at him until our eyes met and he half smiled at me, I quickly smiled back and turned away, not wanting to get caught staring again. The other boy rushed to Stella, leaning down to give her a kiss, Carina and Anna-Lea both gasped and instantly started firing questions at Stella.

"Så det här är Noah började vi dejta under helgen" Stella giggled, introducing us all to her new boyfriend. I tried not to notice as Felix sat next to me, pretending I was more interested in what everyone was talking about.

"Hi, I'm Felix" He lent across the table to whisper to me while everyone else continued their conversation. I looked into his soft blue eyes, momentarily overcome by shyness and at a loss for words.

"U-um, yeah I know, we catch the same bus" I finally stuttered a reply, he leaned in even closer to hear me over our loud friends.

"Your name's Allysyn?" He asked, I couldn't look away from his eyes, I simply nodded.

"If you want, we should hang out sometime? I'll see you on the bus" The bell rang and he got up, not waiting for an answer, he walked away with Noah, looking back at me to smile. I stayed in my seat for a while, confused as to what just happened.

"Are you coming or not? We're going to be late" Anna called to me. I grabbed my school bag and hurried to catch up with her.
