The Guilt

I awoke in a strange bed, memories of last night came back to me and I was overcome with panic, fearing that I had spent the night with Felix. I looked around the room, daylight poured in through the window from a small opening in the curtains, just enough so that I could see without it being too bright. I sighed with relief, realizing that I was in Anna's room, a small part of me felt disappointed but I hid the feeling away, pretending that it wasn't there. Anna was already up and in the shower, I got out of her bed and stretched, my head and stomach where aching from drinking last night, I was thankful that it was only a small hangover. I walked into the kitchen, searching the cupboards for some panadol, it took me a few tries before I finally found some. I sat on the couch in the lounge room after taking two pills and sipped the rest of my water, it was already 11:38am and I still had to go shopping with Anna before she started work at 5:00pm. She worked at a bar to pay her bills while she studied to become a primary teacher.

After another ten minutes of me sitting in the lounge room waiting for my head ache to go away Anna finished her shower and went to her bedroom to get dressed, stopping to say good morning to me on the way. I mumbled a greeting back, my brain was a little slower then usual this morning. I got up and had a shower as well, by the time I got out I was feeling somewhat my normal self again, I found some clothes in one of my bags to dress myself with and used the mirror on the sliding door of my wall-length wardrobe to do my makeup and hair. I walked out of my bedroom feeling fresh, Anna was already waiting for me.

"How are you feeling?" She had always been better at handling her alcohol then I was.

"Good, but starving, do you want to get something to eat before we go shopping?"

"Yeah, are you ready to go now?"

I searched through my purse, checking my keys, phone, chap stick and keycard where in there amongst the other random necessities.

"Yep, lets go"

We stopped off at a little restaurant to get lunch before going into the city's shopping district, it was so crowded with people rushing all over the place, trying to get their last minute gifts for Christmas. The furniture store was on the edge of the shopping district, it wasn't so busy here, we browsed through the store looking for something nice and not too expensive.

"ohh, I like this one" I spotted a nice bedroom set, it had almost everything I needed in it, a bed frame and mattress, two bedside tables, a lounge chair that was long enough to lay down on and a lamp and it was with in my price range. I found some pillows and sheets to go with the bed set and purchased it all, arranging for the store to deliver it in about two-three hours. Anna and I went back into the centre of the district, looking through some clothe stores.

"How where things with Felix and you last night?" Anna tried to casually bring up.

"What do you mean?"

"It seemed a little tense between you both"

"Something weird happened when you went to get the other bottle of vodka.." I was a little hesitant to tell Anna that we had almost kissed, even though she was my best friend and I usually always told her everything, this time it was different, Felix had a girlfriend and I was ashamed about what had happened.

"At first we where kind of dancing together but then we started to fight and then somehow we where really close and we almost kissed" I finally blurted it all out, I cringed and waited for Anna's response, not sure how she would react.

"I though thats what I saw" She was smiling, I wasn't expecting that.

"Yay! My master plan is working"

"What the heck? Anna, you're not supposed to be happy about this!"

"Why not?"

"He has a girlfriend! It's wrong!" Some other customers heard me and my cheeks went red from blushing. Anna rolled her eyes at me.

"Yeah but, you still love him, don't you?"

I looked down and bit my lip.

"And I know he loves you too, you two are meant to be together"

I smiled, letting myself believe what Anna was saying.

"Now lets get back home before we miss the delivery truck"

By the time we got back it was already past 4:00pm and Anna had to get ready to leave again for work. We where waiting in the car park for the truck with only a few minutes until Anna had to go.

"Looks like I'm setting this up by myself" I said when the truck pulled up and the delivery guy started to unload my furniture.

"Or maybe not"

Felix drove into the car park and pulled up beside Anna's car.

"Hey Felix, I've got to go to work, can you please help Ally set up her bedroom?" Anna once again coming up with a plan to get us alone, Felix got out of his car carrying a bag of groceries, he looked at me, then the truck, then Anna and then back to me before answering.

"Yeah, I'll just go put this away and come over"

'Thanks" I smiled at him as he walked past into the building.

"You're so evil" I whisper screamed at Anna as we walked to her car.

"What ever, you so want his dick" She got into her car and laughed at how nervous I had become. I rolled my eyes at her, not bothering to answer that. I watched her drive away and took a deep breath in to try and calm my nerves, whats the worst that could happen?
