Okay, here we go, chapter 12, started the same day I finished chapter 11. If you guys don't love me now, I don't know what'll do it :P

I walked into school the next day and was greeted by the worst sight I could ever see. Connor had disappeared off to his football friends, I hadn't met Kerry yet, I didn't know what was going on with Ollie, and there, before me, was Jake, getting beat to a pulp by jocks.

I ran towards them. 'Leave him alone.' I growled.

'Oh. Want some too, do you?'

'Go on. Hit me. I dare you.' I retorted, standing in front of Jake, becoming a human shield.

'Touch him and your balls will no longer be attached to your body.' Came the voice of my fiery red-headed friend.

She stood next to me and we stood our ground.

The next thing I knew, Ollie was by my side, I looked over to him and he gave me a sad smile, before we returned out attention to the idiots.

Connor arrived at that point and stood with us.

'Gonna beat us all?' I asked. 'You may be able to break our bones, but you'll never break our spirit. We'll keep fighting idiots like you all the way to the grave, and beyond if that's what it takes.'

The idiot jock just mumbled something incoherent and walked off. I turned to Jake and knelt beside him. 'Are you okay?' It was a stupid question but I wasn't sure how bad his injuries were.

'It looks worse than it is.' He said, hoisting himself up and wincing with the pain.

'Ollie, Kerry, can you go and explain that I'll be late to class? I'm gonna take him to the nurses office.'

'I'll go with you.' Connor said.

'No. Go to class. I'll manage on my own.' I said, and he knew there was no argument.

I hoisted Jake up, wrapping his arm around my neck and wrapping my arm around his waist for support, he grunted and I apologised.

'Ha. I don't know what you're apologising for. This is the kindest thing anyone's ever done for me.'

I sighed. 'You've had a hard life, haven't you?'

'You could say that.'

'We'll talk later. Right now you need first aid.' I knocked on the door to the nurses office, there was no answer but it was open. Screw it. I opened the door and walked in.

'What are you doing?'

'The right thing... For once.' I sat him in a chair and began rummaging around for things. I found disinfectant wipes, ice packs, and a first aid kit. Luckily there wasn't much locked up in this room.

I knelt down next to the chair and looked at him. 'This will sting a bit.' I told him, cleaning his cuts with the disinfectant wipes. He hissed in pain but made no complaint.

All in all his wounds weren't as severe as I thought when I originally saw him. Now the blood was gone there were a few small cuts and some bruises, but nothing substantial. I gave him an ice pack for his head and told him to wait while I looked for painkillers.

I rummaged around again and found no medication, but there was a locked cabinet, I presumed it would be in there. I sighed.

I pulled out what looked like a pen-knife from my pocket, until it was further inspected. I opened the door to the cabinet using the lock-pick, then grabbed two ibuprofen and got a cup of water from the water cooler. I handed them to him then went back to trying to re-lock the cabinet.
