it had been years since the world ended, years since the dead began rising, and years since luna mortimer-smith had seen her father. he'd left their home to retrieve medicine for her dying step-mother, but after nearly three months he still hadn't returned. his errand was in vain, however, when her step-mother took her own life-believing her father to be dead. this left luna alone, grief stricken, and without anyone to protect her at just 11 years old. she soon left virginia behind, hoping to find a safe place somewhere else.
she traveled for years, encountering more than her fair share of dead and other survivors, luna had set up a new life for herself in a cabin she came across while wandering the woods. she taught herself to hunt and fish, to purify lake water, and to kill whenever the dead would wander too close to her little home. she spent her days reading or swimming in the lake, doing her best to forget the horrors she'd been put through.
one evening, she steps out to check her hunting traps like she always did. nothing seemed out of place, not even the few dead she killed on the way back to her cabin. however, when she stepped inside, her life would be forever changed. ——————————
