one evening, she'd gone out to check her hunting traps like usual. little did she realize, thoug...

Luna couldn't sleep. No matter how hard she'd tried, she just couldn't. She was too worried. About everything, really. She was worried about the upcoming war, the King's impending decision, the looming threat of her father, it was almost too much. Carl was dead asleep, so she was able to get out of bed without waking him. She wandered out into the hallway, seeing all the other doors were shut, before heading outside. She sat down on the stairs that led up to the building, pulling her near-empty cigarette carton out of her jacket pocket. She had just lit one when the door opened behind her. She turned around, surprised to see Rick. He hesitated for a moment before walking over, sitting down on the stairs as well. For a few minutes, they didn't speak.
"Carl talked to me, after dinner." Rick finally broke the silence. "He told me...about you two. And uh...he put things in perspective for me. You were just as blindsided by Negan as the rest of us were, you had no idea what he was gonna do, what he was capable of. When I kicked you out, I was blaming you for what he'd done. I'm sorry."
"It's fine." She said, shaking her head lightly. "I already told you, I understand why. Two people had just died, emotions were high. Trust me, it's not a big deal."
"Well I'm still sorry." Luna looked over at Rick. "You've been apart of this group for a long time, now and I should've known to trust you."
"As long as you do now, and you let me help, we can just forget about it." She shrugged, and he nodded. "Oh, and I get to be around Judy again." Rick cracked a smile, nodding again.
"You can take her as much as you'd like." Luna returned his smile. They both looked ahead again, falling into silence for another few minutes.
"Who's gonna be the one to do it?" Luna asked after putting out her second cigarette. She looked over at Rick to see a look of confusion on his face. "To kill Negan?"
"I don't know." He admitted. "Could be any one of us. Why?"
"It...it should be me. It has to be me." She said lightly. "I almost did once before. I wish I had, honestly. I was stupid and let my emotions talk me out of it, but next time...next time that won't happen. I have to be the one."
"Why?" Rick turned to her face her more. "It's already gonna be hard enough for you, I'm sure-"
"That's why." She interrupted. "It's gonna be hard to know for sure that my dad is dead no matter what. And I know that, no matter who, I'm gonna look at the person who does it differently. I don't want to, but I will. So it should be me." Rick look at her for a moment before nodding.
"Okay." He said. "Okay, it can be you." She nodded, looking ahead once again. "But you know that it might not be, right? If someone else gets the chance, I'm not gonna tell them to back down. If I get that chance, I will take it.
"You should." She nodded. She sighed, running a hand over her face. "But maybe...maybe I should take it."
"What do you mean?" Luna turned back to him, her idea buzzing in her mind.
