Chapter 10: The Wand

Almost every student that was at the cafeteria had now gathered in the courtyard to feed their curiosity.

You expected more students to gather especially at a place full of teenage girls.

You were honestly a bit underwhelmed, unlike the poor leader of the red team.

Taking a deep breath, Akko proudly presented the Shiny Rod. "See, I told you! I have the Shiny Rod!"

Diana observed the wand and let out a sigh, "An obvious imitation."

"This is the real deal!" Akko angrily retorts back before whipping her head towards you, "You believe me on this, right Y/n? Back me up on this!"

You were going to enjoy your lunch alone in the empty cafeteria while the students were checking out the drama between the red and blue teams, but nooooooo, you had to somehow get dragged into this. "Look, girls-" even if you tried to defuse the two, they always cut you off. If they didn't want to listen to your opinion, why the hell did they even drag you here in the first place?!

"Leave her out of this, if you can't prove your own claim on your own, there's no reason for you to drag her down with you." Diana placed her hand on your shoulder and tugged you back towards her.

Seeing her action, Akko also did the same but instead of a gentle tug by the shoulder, she started to pull you by the arm. "Why are you telling her what to do? She's her own person! She doesn't need someone like you who constantly bosses her around like some sort of servant!"

A deep frown formed on Diana's face as she locked her arms with yours, "How dare you? I'll let you know that she and I have something much more special than mere "friendship." I will never and I mean ever, even dare to think lowly of her, much less treat her like a servant."

"Puhlease, I've seen how you treat her. Always telling what to do and what not to do, hounding her like a dog! What is she? A criminal?! She deserves someone much better than you! You... you-you harasser!"

'Oh boy...' A sweat rolled down your forehead as you witnessed the two girls bicker. 'How did things turn into this? Wasn't the whole point of coming into the garden was to prove the Sparkling stick or whatever it's called real or fake?'

It was crystal clear how annoyed and angry Diana was, but she still managed to look cool and collected. Unlike her, Akko was practically screaming and using her hands to demonstrate her frustration -basically just swinging them around and shaking them.

Nonetheless, the two were practically at each other's throats, their faces real close when suddenly an idea popped up.

Unwrapping your arms from the two girl's death grip, a sly smirk made its way to your face. Clearing your throat, you placed your hands on their shoulders and said,

"You may now kiss the bride."

Immediately the two backed away from one another while their teammates tried to desperately stop themselves from laughing. Except for Sucy, who just loudly cackled.

"If the two of you are done arguing like an old couple, can we hurry up and finish this?" You still kept the smirk on your face as you watched the two either pout or glare at you.

"Fine." the two grumbled.

"Good." You cleared your throat and continued, "Now, the whole point of the argument was to figure out whether if the Magic Rod-"

"Shiney Rod." The two corrected.

"Whatever, if the "Shiney Rod" is real or not, right?" The two nodded, "Then we just have to test it out by casting a simple spell, no?"

The two seemed to agree, finally. You turned to Akko and extended your hand, "Would you mind giving me that for a sec? I promise I'll return it." She nodded and placed the rod in your hand.

But something was off.

The moment she let go of the wand, it immediately zapped you. A wave of pain ran through your arm as it started to flash green. You hissed in pain and dropped the wand as you painfully clutched your now twitchy hand.

It felt like getting struck by lightning. Once observing your hand, you furrowed your eyebrows. It was now shaky and it looked like it was cracking. From the small lines of cracks, it was glowing green and small droplets of blood started to form.

The girls around you shouted your name in worry. Diana placed a hand on your back, "Y/n, are you okay?" she gently whispered out, her voice laced with worry and concern.

Hannah stood by you as she glared at Akko, "Bringing a taser to school?! What's wrong with you?! Why the hell would you bring such a dangerous weapon here?!"

"W-what? That's not supposed to happen! Y/n, I'm so sorry, I-"

You stood up and sent them a smile, "No no, it's fine. I'm fine." You looked at the rod and sighed, "I guess that proves that it's not a fake, huh? Well, if you'll excuse me, I'll be heading to the nurse's office."

Right before you turned to leave, someone gently tugged on your arm. "Are you sure? Do you want me to come with you?" It was Diana.

Letting out an amused huff, you pat her head, "I'll be fine. I'll see you later, 'k?"

You didn't wait for her to respond and left.

Once you are far enough, you let a frown replace your usual smile. 'Damn it, what the hell was that? That wand... it's no ordinary wand.'

The moment you touched the rod, you felt it, the tremendous amount of power that was stored inside. Because of your family's blood, you accidentally absorbed a bit of the built-up energy. 'I guess my body isn't used to that much power...'

"Welp, one thing's for certain... I don't ever want to touch that thing again."
