For some reason, when Diana and her mother came back home, she couldn't use magic anymore. She's been trying non-stop but to no avail, she couldn't even fly a broom, and what's worse, her "friends" back in school all practically ostracized her. She spent months crying and it broke your heart for not being able to be by her side.
Damned brats only befriended her because she was a Cavendish, if you were there, you would make sure to cast a spell to make trees grow out of their sorry asses.
It took a good year for Diana to be able to cast spells again, you and her mother gave some tips which seems to help a lot.
You were now 10 years old. You, along with your father, were at the airport with a bunch of suitcases, waiting for the flight back to England. The Kagaris were also there to say their farewells, but that wasn't the problem, the problem was Akko, she was a crying mess.
"Do you really have to go?!" Akko croaked out between her sobs, attaching herself to you like a koala.
"Yeah, I do, but-" you pried her off of yourself, and held her at arm's length, "If you're truly serious about being a witch like Chariot, then we'll meet again in Luna Nova, okay?"
Sniffling, she nodded, a fiery determination was lit in her eyes, "Okay, I'll see you in Luna Nova then!" She wiped her tears away and smiled, "One more goodbye hug?"
"One more and that's it, deal?" earning a nod, you gently wrapped your arms around the shorter girl. "Well, see you later."
You waved goodbye to the Kagaris and left to board the plane with your father. Spending a whole 5 years locked up in the hospital, Akko was like a breath of fresh air whenever she would visit, it was usually during the weekends but nonetheless, you enjoyed her company. Her goofy personality reminded you so much of your deceased mother.
Time seems to fly by, one moment you were coming back home from your trip from Japan, and in the next, you were standing in front of the Ley Line Terminal, waiting for Diana to go back to school.
"Forgive me for my tardiness, Y/n, did you wait long?" Speak of the devil and he shall arrive. There stood the one and only, Diana Cavendish in all her glory, neatly dressed in her school uniform and a broom in hand.
"No, I'm fine, in fact, I just arrived here so no harm done." You waited for her to get closer, "So, shall we go?" Diana silently nodded, then the two of you mounted your brooms and effortlessly flew to the Ley Line.
While flying, you glanced at the heiress flying next to you. She has grown quite a lot, both physically and mentally. The two of you are now 16 years old, first-year students at Luna Nova Magical Academy, only 3 more years to graduate. A Lot of things have happened over the years, but the most sudden thing was Lady Bernadette's death.
Diana was only 12 when it happened, it wasn't any sort of illness or murder, it was just an accident. While on her way home on a stormy night, the roads became too wet and slippery for the wheels to properly grasp... you could probably guess what happened. She was the sole survivor out of the 3, though she was unconscious. It was a good thing Bernadette was met with instant death, she didn't have to suffer, unlike the driver who slowly bled to death. It's as if she was destined to die early.
Ever since then, she stopped being the usual jovial little girl you used to know, she became stoic and serious, spending all her free time studying and practicing spells. She would always put on a facade of a cold and apathetic person, but you know that she's still hurting inside.
To her, you were her safe space, you are the first and only person that would come up in her mind when she would need help and or support. She knows that you would always be by her side to be the pillar that she can lean on. You're the only person who she can fully trust, you're the only person who she can truly be herself around, she can show you her true colors without being worried about being betrayed, she can show you her weaknesses without being worried that you'll take advantage of. She's truly happy that throughout all these years, that you're still by her side, you're still with her.
But... she wishes that you would open up to her. You're still such an enigma to her, she could never truly understand you no matter how hard she tries. She just hopes that one day, she'll be able to know the real you.
She started to feel self-conscious because of the silent stares you keep giving her, "Is there something on my face?"
Without a word, you flew closer to her and pulled yourself over to her broom, "Y-Y/N!?"
You wrapped your arms around her waist and placed your chin on her shoulder, "Have you been eating well?" You gently traced your hands over her waist, it made you worried, it's either she's malnourished, or your hands are just really big. "Your waist is really small..."
Diana's face flushed a bright shade of red and she quickly faced forward, trying to hide her blush from her. The keyword 'tried'. "I'm fine, I eat my meals every day so I'm perfectly healthy." she squeaked out.
You hummed, "That's good... " you know she was lying, she had made a habit of skipping breakfast and sometimes even dinner.
In her gentle voice, she called out, "Y/n, we're here."
Today marks the beginning of your high school life with all the good shit, annoying teachers, horny teens, drama, and let's not forget about stress, lots of it... great.
