열: The Promise

I was having a rest, my head on his bed while I was sitting on a stool. I was too tired and frustrated about everything that has happened.

“H-Hey.”

I instantly woke up when I heard his voice. My eyes widened and the heaviness I felt inside vanish. I held his hands, tears of joy was at the corner of my eyes.

He still look so weak, but he's already awake. It's enough reason for me to be happy.

“S-Sean. Do you need something? Are you hurt? Just tell me, alright?” I bombarded him with worried questions. I was nervous while looking at him.

He shifted his gazes at me with a weak smile. He looks so weak but here I am, convincing myself he will be alright. He hold back my hand as his breath became shallow seconds by seconds. I bit my lower lip when I saw a tear escaping from his eyes.

He was looking at me, and it's hurting me seeing him like this. Dang it!

“I-I'm sorry.”

He muttered as I touch his forehead with my face inches away from his. I was silently crying while looking at him.

“I know you're t-tired, but please, stay awake, huh. Y-You get it Sean? S-Stay awake, arasseo?”

I begged while clasping our hands. He was just staring at me. He looks weak while shedding tears. He was blinking his eyes, barely breathing.

It pained me so much but I can't let go because I know he's fighting and so am I.

“I-I'm so s-sorry...”

“S-Sean, I got you. Y-You're going to be okay, it's gonna be okay...”

I mumbled, my voice were so muffled while I was crying.

“S-Should I call the doctor for y-you?” I asked but he tightly held my hand. He was trying to stop me from going out. I bit my lower lip more, seeing him like that.

“N-No, stay here...”

He said that made me break down more. I slightly nodded while kissing his hands.

“I-I promised that I'll stay until the last breath, r-right? I won't break it for you...”

I wanted to curse so bad while listening at him. I was crying badly while looking at him. He looks so weak but was smiling at me.

“T-The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?” He asked but I was so confuse and pained to answer and talk back. I can't even move my trembling lips.

“Do you know what that means?” He asked as I shook my head. My visions were getting blurry but I can still see his face.

“It means I love you, but I'll let you go. S-So please, do t-the same, okay?”

I shook my head multiple times while holding tightly on his hands. Fuck, I can't let him go. That would kill me.

“No... I can't do that Sean.” I said while touching his face.

“But you need to. I need to go, I need to let go. But I stayed until the l-last breath, right?”

I nodded but half of me was so close to collapse. I felt so weak and scarred. My heart was shattering by his words.

“Sean, y-you can't do that. What about me?! How will I live without you?!?

I saw more tears from his eyes. He weakly breath and smile. There's like a knife stabbed into my heart, bringing the heaviness I felt within.

“Don't close your eyes. Just please don't close your eyes.”

“I'm sorry...” He kept saying that before raising his hands until it reached my cheeks.

“Please don't say that.” I kept begging but it was nothing.

“My eyelids are getting weaker, I-I need to rest now...”

I bit my lower lip more, the pain was so deep. I'm so weak just by hearing him saying those words.

I kissed the top of his head with continuous tears flowing from my eyes. Should I just let go? Should I let him rest?

“I-I love you so much, Sean...”

“I-I love you more than anything, S-Stan.”

And as he said those words with my name, he gently close his eyes. Shutting the world before him.

I'll let you rest now, Sean, but I will never ever let go.
