I spent the next two weeks organising the dance showcase. I was transported back and forth from the apartment to the dance studio under Jeff’s protection. I liked having Jeff around; it was somebody to talk to that was there every day. Although I had started to get a little irritable towards the end of the fortnight because he was becoming ‘over-protective’ to the point where he would follow me to the bathroom and wait outside the door. He monitored everyone who went in and out of the building, but still he stood there.
It got to the day before the dance performances and I was in the main studio with all eighteen of the dancers who were helping me put on the show of nine performances. Everyone had broken off into their groups for a practice of the finale dance and were just chatting and going through their individual pieces when someone grabbed me by the shoulders and yanked me backwards.
I gasped as I felt myself being pulled back, only to hear Tom’s adorable little chuckle as I regained my balance.
‘Tom, you muppet, you scared me!’ I scolded him, smacking him lightly with the paperwork I held in my hands.
Tom laughed to himself, ‘I’m sorry darling, I couldn’t resist. Although if I knew I’d be victim to an attack with a stack of paper then I may have reconsidered.’
I just smiled at him. How could I be cross with a man who is just so unbelievably cute.
‘I didn’t know you were coming here today.’ I said whilst watching the dancers rehearse.
‘Neither did I, but today was just a script reading and a couple of short magazine interviews so I was done pretty early on. I thought I’d grab you your favourite brie and tomato toastie from Pret a Manger on my way across.’
‘Ooh,’ my eyes must have widened a lot at the sound of lunch because Tom burst out laughing, ‘Hold on one second.’
I moved into the centre of the room to address the dancers, ‘right girls, take a break. We’ll continue with rehearsals in an hour when we will do a final run-through.’
I walked back over to Tom, now rummaging through the paper bag containing our food.
‘Let’s eat in the office.’ I suggest before heading for the door.
‘So, you don’t want to see what else is in here then?’ Tom smirked and raised his eyebrow at me.
‘Ooh, what is it?’ I run back over smiling.
He pulls his hand slowly back out of the bag to reveal my other favourite – a giant white chocolate and cranberry cookie.
I felt my tummy rumble just at the sight of it, ‘Did I ever tell you that you buy the best lunches?’
‘No, you didn’t, but I’ll take your word for it.’
‘I’m almost sorry for hitting you now.’ I giggled.
