Chapter Three
"Ready, love?" Blake asks me as I slide into to the passenger seat of his Ford F-150. It is crazy to think that I haven't even known him for a day and I feel like we are already close friends.
I let out a slight, fastening my seat belt and setting my purse on my lap. I decided to wear a pair of dark wash skinny jeans with Ariat cowboy boots and a lilac blouse for the first day of school. It was cute, simple, comfortable, and not over the top. After the ride this morning I had showered and flat ironed my naturally wavy brown hair and applied eyeliner and a couple coats of mascara that made my hazel eyes pop. To be honest, I was totally nervous for my first day but it comforted me that I would be going in with knowing at least one person. "I think so. At least I know someone and I am not going in blind." I tell him honestly.
He lets out a soft chuckle. "I'll spend the whole day with you if you need me. I wouldn't mind your company." Blake winks at me and I blush. "What's your first class?" He pulls the truck out of my driveway and heads back down the gravel road in the direction of the high school.
I take my phone out of my purse. I had set my schedule as the lock screen on my phone so I didn't get totally lost. "AP Psychology with Fritz."
"Really? That's my first period, too. I can walk you to class!" I blush and look down at my lap, deciding that I blush way to easily. Blake adds, "I mean, if you want."
"No of course that would be really helpful. I have no idea where I am going."
We drive down the road, passing rows and rows of corn. Sitting in silence, Blake finally turns on the radio. Country music blares out of the speakers. Literally the only stations we get out here are a few country stations and a news station. Trust me, I am not complaining I love country music, it is just a lot different than what I am used to.

Twenty minutes later, Blake pulls into the senior lot of 'Honeycomb County High School'. It was a lot bigger than I would imagine a small country town high school to be. The outside of the school was packed. I notice the jocks passing a football back and forth on the front lawn and the cheerleaders practicing a routine. Everyone is hugging each other after a long summer away. People are scattered across the lawn in the shade of the trees, chatting or listening to music. It was your typical high school scene. I wonder which group of people Blake belonged to.
I sling my purse across my body, straightened my hair, and stepped out of the car. Here goes nothing. Blake climbs out of the car on the other side. He makes his way over and walks next to me, giving me a wide grin, showing off his bright white teeth. I can feel the eyes of people turning, staring as Blake and I walk across the parking lot. I glance over at Blake, who is gleaming with confidence. I try to copy Blake's confident walk. I pull my shoulders back and hold my chin up high, trying to ignore the stares. My cheeks are burning and I know everyone is wondering who I am.
"Hey, man!" Some of the football players shout to Blake.
"Hey, boys! Ready for another winning season?" He shouts back. All of the guys start cheering. Blake looks at me, his cheeks slightly reddened, "I have been the captain of the varsity football team since sophmore year." He admits. Of course he has.
"Wow. You must be good."
He laughs under his breath. "You could say that."
"Ladies." Blake nods his head and winks at a group of Freshman age looking girls sitting on a bench. They giggle and smile at him, cheeks as bright at tomatoes. I roll my eyes. Maybe if I spend to much time around Blake my eyes will get stuck like that.
"Hey, Blakey." Three girls with fake blond hair and way to short shorts walk over to us. I can see his jaw tighten. "How have you been?" One of the girls asks, way to cheerfully. She leans in front of Blake, showing off her exposing tank top. She places a hand on Blake's shoulder. "And who is this?" She adds, finally noticing me next to him.
