Summer's POV

"You're gonna be late, hurry up and eat your breakfast."

Today was the start of my internship and my mother had been pestering me all morning. She came in my room and woke me up at five in the morning asking me how I was going to do my hair, and what I was wearing. Honestly, I thought she was more excited about this than I was. "No, I'm gonna be late if I stay here and finish my breakfast." I took one final bite of my pancakes and gulped down the rest of my juice.

"Wish me luck!"

I kissed my mother on the cheek and ran out the door. My train was leaving in thirty minutes and it took fifteen to get to the train station. I was a bundle of nerves while driving, the urge to vomit popping in and out of my head. I sped through every yellow light, not wanting to get stuck and lose even more time.

"Fuck, there's no parking."

I drove around in circles until I finally found a spot to park my car at the train station. There was still five minutes left until my train arrived so I relaxed a bit, making a mental note to wake up earlier for tomorrow. I pulled myself together and decided to go wait on the platform. My feet were already hurting from the heels, and wearing a blazer in this heat was practically a death sentence.

A loud rumble emerged from the left of me and I looked up from my feet to see the train, speeding into a complete stop. I quickly shuffled on trying to find a good seat. I didn't take public transportation often, ever really so the experience was adding to my anxiety. Once I found a good place to sit, I relaxed and pulled my phone out of my bag scrolling through the notifications.

Devon: You're gonna do great today.

Devon: I love you.

I smiled at my phone and began typing.

Summer: Thanks for the encouragement I love you too <3

I pulled out my air pods and placed them in my ears, deciding some music would help settle my nerves. I was excited about going to the city but I was also terrified. I enjoyed small towns and small neighborhoods. I couldn't ever imagine myself living in a busy city like NY, let alone working there.

Devon: Stop over thinking!

Summer: Are you a mind reader?

Devon: No, I just know you all too well.

Devon sent me a few more words of encouragement before he had to leave for work. Now having nothing else to distract me from my thoughts, I opened a web novel app on my phone and began reading one of my favorite stories to pass the time.

...

"Have a good first day!" My Uber driver called out from his window while I exited his car. Once he saw I was headed to Media First comp. he threw out congratulations and praises. "Thank you! Enjoy the rest of your day!" I brushed off my skirt and lightly jogged towards the building, trying to avoid bumping into people. It was massive and decorated in large windows, the sun reflecting what looked like rainbows off of them. It had to be one of the most beautiful buildings in Manhattan. If the exterior was this big and intimidating I couldn't imagine what the inside was like.

"Your entry card Ma'am?"

A tall man in a black suit stared me down waiting for me to show identification. "Hi, my name is Summer Nolan. I'm one of the new interns here, I was told to just give my name when I arrived and I'd be using an entry card going forward." The man looked me up and down as if trying to confirm it was really me.
