Summer's POV

"What are you doing here?" I closed my car door and backed into it as far as I could, trying to make distance between us. "I see you picked up that dress, I like it. Even though I should be the only one looking at you in it." I wanted to throw up from the way he was looking at me. His breath reeked of alcohol, sweat dripped from his forehead and his clothes were mangled.

"Chris, have you been drinking?"

He took one step closer, pushing me further into my car. I had nowhere to go and he knew that. "Yes, and I've realized some things. I want you back Summer, I need you." His stare was cold as he begged me to take him back. He was void of any real emotions, making his performance all the less convincing.

"No, now you need to go." A part of me felt crossed. He was obviously drunk out of his mind and if he drove here, I didn't want to be responsible for him getting into an accident. Not because I cared about him, but because the memory of him would haunt me for the rest of my life. He continued pleading with me for what felt like hours until he got tired of begging. He was now angry, livid. He slammed his hand onto the side of my car, inches away from my face.

"So what? You wouldn't put out when we were together, but you spread your legs for that dick inside?"

I looked past him to my window hoping someone would notice how long I'd been outside. He was drunk enough where I'd be able to push him and just run out of the way. If he wasn't so fucking strong, I would have done just that, but it was no use. So, I stood there, frozen, listening to him tear into me.

"Why is it so fucking hard for you to understand something so simple? If you think any of this is my fault, you're wrong. I loved you, cared for you, but you made it so hard with all your complaining and conditions. I was tired Summer, I made so many sacrifices for you! Don't you remember?"

I stared at him not saying a word, that was all I could do. I didn't want to feed into his lies, I couldn't, wouldn't. But he was just so convincing. "You need to leave, now!" He laughed and leaned closer to my face, the smell of his breath making me gag.

"Listen to me carefully Summer, you-"

"Hey!"

Devon ran out of the house and to my car, pushing Chris out of the way. "Are you okay?" He ignored him completely and wrapped his arms around me. I was hoping he'd continue to ignore Chris until he regained his footing and opened that big mouth of his. "Having fun fucking my girlfriend?" Devon nodded his head and turned to face him. I didn't want to be that annoying girl who argued with boys during a fight trying to reason with them, but I had no choice.

I at least had to try to get him to leave it.

"Devon, let's just go back inside."

"You go back inside Summer."

I sprinted to the front door to go tell everyone what was happening, hoping my parents could stop things before they escalated. But knowing Chris, Devon's hand probably connected with his face as soon as I turned around.

Devon's POV

I put my hands in my pockets trying to refrain from beating the shit out of Chris. I owed it to Summer and to myself to at least see if I could deal with him without violence, but I wasn't very hopeful.

"Your girlfriend?"

"Yeah, the one you stole from me."

It was almost laughable how pathetic he was. How he could stand there and talk so boldly to Summer but shrink as soon as someone else came around. "Just go home, you're not even worth it." I pushed past him wanting to go back into the house to comfort Summer and I would have done just that if he didn't open his mouth again.
