I wake up to the smell of bacon, and the sound of crackling oil. I walk into the kitchen and Kirstie stands with her back to me, frying bacon. She's wearing one of my t shirts. She hums and sways her hips back and forth. I wrap my arms around her waist. She looks up at me and smiles. Her glasses frame her face, and I kiss her forehead.
"Where did you get that shirt?" I smiled.
"I stole it," she turns back to the bacon.
"Consider it a gift because it looks better on you," I kiss her cheek.
"Do you know that Mitch likes Scott?" she wraps her arms around my neck.
"Do you know that Scott likes Mitch?"
"I shouldn't have told you."
"I shouldn't have told you."
"Our little secret?"
"As long as we make a plan to get those two together."
"I made bacon," she kisses my nose.
"Can I have it?"
"No, not until the muffins are out."
"Muffins? How long have you been awake?"
"Long enough. You'll pay me back later."
"How?"
"Sweating and loud grunts."
It's not how it sound. I know. I was like Avi you sly dog, and then it turned out to be something a lot less physical. We went to play laser tag. Not any laser tag, but intense laser tag with strategy and warfare. You wouldn't peg Kirstie as that kind of girl, but something surprises you every day. I grab a day-glo gun off the shelf and slip on a vest. Kirstie comes over with a black tub. She has orange and white neon stripes across her face. A pink bandana spreads across her forehead.
"So I got the girls to let you in, but you have to wear these," she holds up a matching bandana and some glow-in-the-dark face paint. I tie the bandana around my head, and Kirstie paints two lines on my cheeks. I kiss her softly on the lips, and she blushes. The girls shove me around, but the games begin. Before I know it, I'm shooting some twelve year old boy and running around. Kirstie pecks my cheek, and we get a real quick selfie. We win, and go out for celebratory ice cream. When we get home, we fall right asleep from the happy exercise I wasn't expecting, but had plenty of fun.
