"It's a twenty four hour 7/11?" I speak through my phone.
"Yeah, and they gave me food and a place to stay for tonight."
"We'll be there tomorrow, and we're almost there. We just have to sleep tonight." I hit the red button and turn to Kirstie. She kisses my cheek, tears streaming down her's. I grab her face in my hands and press her lips to mine. Her cheeks squish onto mine, her dark makeup that was streaming down her face smearing on mine. I hold her into my chest and she sobs. I stroke her hair gently and place her on the bed. She curls underneath the covers and pats the bed next to her. I snuggle with her until she snores against my chest. I fall asleep too soon after, and am awoken by Kirstie's whimpers.
"Baby?" I stroked her hair, and she buried her face deep into my chest.
"I had a dream Jeremy came back. I dreamt that you couldn't fight him, and he made you watch him rape me."
"Did he rape you?"
"A few times."
"Oh, babe. C'mere," I pulled her into a deep hug, and she sobbed into my shirt.
"The worst part was watching you cry. I don't want you to be sad."
"What time is it?" I ask as she lays back down. I do too, and stroke her hair gently.
"Six. Can we go get her?"
"It's only about twenty minutes away."
"Let's go," she pulled me out of the room. She placed me behind the wheel and kissed my jawline softly. She grazed the skin of my neck gently, and I moaned. "How about tonight?"
"The wait will be agony," I whined, and she giggled. I started the car. We drove with the radio turned on softly, and pulled into the 7/11. She ran to the car. Kirstie hopped out and pulled her into and embrace. They pulled apart, and gestured for me to come in with a group hug. I wrapped my arms around the two of them and closed my eyes. Safe. We hopped back into the car and drove.
"I did it for a reason, you know," she piped.
"What?" Kirstie asked.
"I wanted a relationship like you two. I thought maybe if I found a guy, we could get it. I regret it, though."
"Honey," I speak up. "You'll find a guy in a weird way and you two will get together in a weird way and you don't need to worry. It will happen."
Kirstie reached for my hand from the wheel and laced her fingers with mine. We drove the rest of the way in silence. When we get home, Mrs. Maldonado hugs her, and they go on their way. I sit on the couch and look through my pictures. I find one of me and Kirstie kissing. I smile at it, and show it to her. She simply laughs and takes my hand to guide me to the bedroom.
