Okay, so I may have done something stupid. As in, stupid with a capital S-T-U-P-I-D. Kirstie may or may not have angered me, we may or may not have gotten into a huge fight, and I may or may not have stormed out to take a drive. I think I made Kirstie cry, which only makes my heart ache even more. I park in a Sherwin-Williams, and bury my face in my hands. I hurt the one I love. Only when tears spill from the corners of my eyes does a text appear. Kirstie.
'Jeremy has me. I love him. Need less to say, I'm over you. Help is not needed.'
I take a moment to stare at the screen. Kirstie is not the girl who just runs off with guys willy-nilly. After thirty minutes, I finally decode it.
'Jeremy has me. I. Need. Help.'
I speed off to his apartment (thankfully next to mine), and slam down the door. Kirstie sits in a corner, her head buried in her knees, curled into her chest.
"Kirstie," I sigh, and rush over to her. Only then do I notice her cried off makeup and busted upper lip. She also has a violet bruise forming under her eye. I hug her, and she stays stiff. I pull away, only to see her trembling underneath my touch. I kiss the top of her head, and tears stream down her face.
"What happened?" I say, but my voice was too loud, and she curls into a tighter ball.
"Jeremyrapedme," she whispers.
"Kirstie, I'm not him. You can tell me anything. I won't hurt you," I stroke her hair, and she curls up into my chest.
"I was raped, beat, and verbally abused today. That fight was stupid. I just want to go home," she sobs. I pick her up bridal style and place her on my bed. She has a wild look in her eyes, but I just place her under the covers, and walk out of the room. I hear her sobs, and turn on my heels. I snuggle her into my chest until I hear her snores. I gently get out of bed, and leave her a note saying I was going to get him evicted. I hope she doesn't get too scared at my absence, but I will never know. I walk to the main office and ask for the manager. A tall man comes out and invites me into his office.
"So, Mr. Kaplan, how may I help you?" he smiles at me.
"Well, my girlfriend was brutally abused, raped, and verbally assaulted today. We will press charges. We only ask that you evict him, because, you see, we're next door neighbors. I locked the door, so he has no way to get into our apartment."
"Avi, I have more than enough reasons to evict him if you win or lose the trial," he shakes my hand. I run up to the apartment, and Kirstie is crying on the couch.
"Oh, Kirstie!" I rush to her side and stroke her hair.
"I thought you left me!" she sobbed into my chest. I just snuggled her into my chest, and let her go back to sleep. She wakes up with a jolt and begins to sob again. I kiss her head, and hold her tight.
"I had a flashback," she sighs between sobs.
"Oh, baby, lets go to bed."
I carry her into our bedroom, and lay her into bed. I know she's scared, but I just tuck her under the covers and crawl in. Around midnight, I hear a noise in Kirstie's old bedroom. I grab a baseball bat, and head into the hallway. A drunk Jeremy is looking rather angry. I call the police, and wait for them to arrive. I wake Kirstie, but make sure that she's far from Jeremy. The police arrest him. I snuggle up to Kirstie, and we both fall asleep.
