06. New Normal isn't Normal.

Emerson

LAWSON AND REESE LEFT MY HOUSE AFTER LUNCH, FOR LUNCH I had made some burgers and fries before they left. The two were happy to eat at my place before they left. Once they left though was when I ran back to my room.

"Emerson, were Reese and Lawson here?" I heard my mom ask.

"Yeah, they just stopped by about the graduation party." I lied to her. She didn't need to know that they told me about a cult in town.

Mom appeared. "Have they set a date?" Mom asked.

"Not yet, but I'll ask Lawson next time I see him." I told her and mom nodded before she left. I took a deep breath before heading back to my room and going over to my desk. I set my glasses down and looked over at them.

It's trippy not needing them or my contacts to see. After we were sacrificed, I felt as if my vision had improved a little but as of now it was as if I had perfect vision now. I shook my head before turning back to my desk and opening my laptop.

I have work to do. Unlike Lawson and Reese, I always had better grades than the two and a scholarship had been offered. But the one thing Lawson has on me is he has what he wants to do all picked out.

Reese is the only one still figuring it out. Lucky for him we are planning a year gap before we go off into life. A way to stick together longer.

But now with the information Lawson had given me I felt uneasy. His father working as a detective had never come in handier. A cult is in town. I refused to believe it to be a coincidence considering we had been sacrificed.

Lawson and Reese seem comfortable with how life has turned out. While I could get with surviving being stabbed to death it's what happened afterwards that has me uneasy.

Lawson and Reese both started looking bad prior to having sex. And I may not be all that experienced in that category, but I doubt sex revives you. After Plum and I did it the burn in my throat had gone away.

Since then, it had been pondering on my mind. But Lawson's confirmation that a cult is indeed in town had me uneasy. If his father didn't have this job, I probably would have brushed it off.

A lot of people come in and out of New River, it wouldn't be a surprise that someone dangerous came out. People loved flocking here especially during the summer. It's how New River stayed afloat, being a town that thrived during the wild west period.

There was even some gunfight here as well. It caused tourists to flock here during tourist season, which is coming up.

No one ever would've thought a cult would flock here though. Only Lawson, Reese, and I even know there is a cult here. . . well the police station knows as well. But we've seen them. I glanced down my shirt where the scars from the night were.

I shook my head before typing in Satanic cult into the search bar. The cult definitely wasn't too smart when they admitted to being a Satanic cult, but they didn't think we'd survive. We shouldn't have survived.

But we did and now here I am doing my best to research. I bit my lip before going into my tote of school supplies I have underneath the bed. With it being senior year, I had made sure to keep extra supplies.

I grabbed a solid black composition notebook before sitting back down with one of my black gel pens. Right now, the best thing to do is to collect information on this. So that is what I intent to do.

After a few websites clicked on and my virus protection being triggered a few times I realized that this is going to be a lot harder to research than any of the projects I've done in the past.
