07. The Descent Down
Reese
THE RESTAURANT EMERSON PICKED OUT WAS ABOUT TWENTY minutes away from the school, so it wasn't that big of a drive. I spent most of it on my phone scrolling through various social media before we arrived.
Once Lawson parked his car we got out and went inside. Inside a waitress welcomed us. "Table for three." Lawson told her and she nodded before leading us over to a four-table booth. Lawson and I sat together while Emerson took a seat across from us.
After we were seated the waitress brought menus over to us and set them down.
"What can I get you three for drinks?" She asked and we looked over the menu.
"I'll have a half sweet tea half lemonade." Emerson told her.
"Raspberry lemonade." Lawson answered.
I glanced over the menu looking at the drinks. "I'll have a diet coke." I told her and she nodded as she scribbled our orders down and left.
I looked back at the menu. "Feel free to order whatever you guys want, dinner is one me." Lawson told us and Emerson and I nodded. With that in mind I went through the menu before picking out a meal.
I sat there waiting for the waitress to come back. After four minutes she appeared with our drinks and set down our drinks. "Are you guys ready to order?" She asked and Lawson nodded.
"I'll have lobster bisque with some crab cakes." I told her. She wrote that down before looking over at Lawson.
"I'll have the two haddock tacos, a basket style." Lawson told her and she nodded.
"The basket comes included with the drink, so I'll remove the price of your drink." She told him and Lawson nodded before she turned to Emerson.
"I'll have a crab wrap, basket style." Emerson told her and she nodded before leaving.
With that we settled into the chairs before waiting for our food. "So, how was your day Emerson?" Lawson asked looking over where Emerson sat.
"Alright, um, Plum is going to be coming over again." Emerson murmured.
"The girl?" I asked interest peaking in me.
Emerson looked at me. "My partner in school, she wants to try to get the work done before the end of year exams." Emerson told me.
"You guys going to work this time?" I asked teasingly.
Emerson shook his head. "We worked last time as well Reese. I'm capable of doing schoolwork first and then moving onto other activities." Emerson responded and I smiled.
"I'm just fucking with you Emerson; I know you don't intend to let any girls get in the way of your perfect grades." I told him and Emerson laughed a little.
"We are at the end of the year Reese, it's really important to be doing your best right now. Any fucks up right now could really effect my chances of colleges I'm looking at." Emerson told me and I nodded.
"Understandable, but after graduation don't forget we have a road trip planned. We have a gap year planned." I reminded him.
"Oh, I don't intend to forget, I'm actually looking forward to it. I have a bunch of money saved up for it, my mom's also been helping with putting some away for we can afford all of this. I know we didn't get to do the backpacking through Europe, but this just as good, and who knows maybe we can get our passports and go to Canada as well." Emerson suggested.
