13. Epilogue
Reese
CONFRONTING a cult turned into the police showing up to bring the body of a teenage girl who killed herself out. Lawson had handled the two cult bodies. There were no marks on them or indications of us being there except to drop books off.
Now we were being questioned.
Our only saving grace being Lawson's dad being here. The moment he heard about his son and us he had refused to not come along.
However, a simple questioning turned darker when I saw two FBI agents looking at the bodies of the cult members.
"Is that the FBI?" I asked Lawson's dad who looked over.
"Yes." He answered.
"Why are they here?" I asked.
"They were called in for those two bodies. They were identified. Sullivan Black and Percy Dunn. Sullivan is wanted for two accounts of murder and Percy is wanted for breaking and entering along with some assault and battery and being an accomplice for Sullivan. They're believed to be the ones running the cult that was here, so the FBI are taking it over." He explained.
I nodded. Any sympathy towards the two were drained.
"And Radella?" Em asked.
"Her father has been alerted and her body is being dealt with. He's being put in questioning as well, as her phone had calls out to Sullivan and Percy." He told Em.
He turned to us. "What were you three doing here?" He asked.
"We were dropping off some books for Emerson. The doors were unlocked so we went in and waited for Emerson. We came after we heard the gunshot." Lawson told his dad with the story we had developed and agreed on.
Lawson's dad nodded. "I feel terrible for Radella's dad, both his daughters having taken their lives." He murmured.
Em nodded. I looked up as one of the FBI agents came over.
"Do you mind if we ask a few questions?" The one with jet black hair and sunglasses asked.
"Not at all, I'll be over there is you three need me." Lawson's dad told us, and we nodded.
Once he was gone the FBI agent turned towards us. "Agent Gadreel." Gadreel introduced himself as he came over.
We looked up at him. "Is it about the cult leaders or Radella?" Lawson asked taking the lead for us.
"I'll be asking about both; did you find the girl like that?" Gadreel asked.
"I went in to look at some books and she shot herself just as I went into the aisle where she was." Em told him and Gadreel nodded.
Gadreel wrote it down. "And did you three come across the cult members while in there?" Gadreel asked.
"We did not, after the librarian came out, she stayed with us until my dad got here." Lawson spoke. Gadreel nodded.
"Where they related?" I asked. We were playing the dumb innocent act with him. We all knew they were related. Radella had met up with them and had been the one to give them the sacrificial ritual, then burned the book for we couldn't reverse it and then shot herself.
I truly didn't know what was wrong with her. Right down to her convinced we killed her sister.
Her sister's name sounded familiar, but I didn't ever recall her. Nor doing any sort of thing Radella accused of us.
"We believe so, well the FBI believes so, me and my partner know so." Gadreel smiled as he looked at us.
"What does that mean?" Emerson asked shifting nervously.
"It was a far fetch honestly. Luci honestly doesn't like us dabbling in human affairs, but I couldn't resist. Such an angry girl she was. All it took was a little encouragement, bringing more books in, and directing some angrier fools near her. All it takes is a little doubt for us to come in." Gadreel smiled.
"Who are you?" I asked backing up on the seat of Lawson's dad's truck.
Gadreel smiled before he took his sunglasses revealing black eyes underneath. He smiled. "A downfall to being as old as me and turning the way I was." Gadreel admitted.
"What are you?" Em demanded backing away.
Gadreel smiled. "You three were an experiment, one that went a lot better than expected. Humans have been possessed by demons, but never turned. We'll be looking forward to what you three do from now on. . . we'll be in touch."
With the way he had come in I half expected him to disappear in a burst of flames, but instead he walked away.
"This road trip isn't going to fix this is it?" Em asked and Lawson looked over.
"Probably not, but we will deal with this, same way we dealt with everything else. For now, we relax and let this carry out before going home." Lawson spoke.
Honestly, that was the best thing we could do. Take it one step at a time.
We had no idea what was coming though. Not even a single clue on what Gadreel set off with Radella and the cult.
