10. Complicated Friendships

Reese

I NEVER REALIZED HOW QUICK EMERSON COULD GET EMBARRASSED until what happened when I came over to study. Maybe what I did was idiotic.

I could've waited. But I didn't.

What is done is done. We spent the rest of the night studying. The one good sign was Emerson let me stay the night. He didn't seem bothered by that. He pulled out an air mattress for me. A memory foam one which made it much comfier than my bed.

Sometimes I wished my mom would just drink herself to death. At least then I could just spend all of my time with Emerson or Lawson. But she hadn't. At least I could enjoy this one night here with him.

Since it was the weekend, I got to sleep in. When I woke up Emerson was in bed with a box of pizza on it.

"My mom ordered us some pizza and wings. Meat lovers and barbeque wings." Emerson told me.

I got up and stretched before using the bathroom and coming back out. "Thanks." I told him as I sat down on the bed next to him after changing my clothes with the set of spare clothes in my backpack.

Emerson nodded as he watched me. I took the foam plate and put two slices of pizza on it along with some of the barbeque wings. Emerson smiled at me as we began eating the pizza.

"I want to apologize for last night." I told him and Emerson looked up.

"You don't have to. I don't really care; it's just we have a lot going on right now. I think we should focus more on that than whatever is happening between us. This cult is a real threat." Emerson murmured and I nodded.

He had a point. . . even if I didn't like it.

"We could always just kill them." I told him.

Emerson looked up at me. "Even if I wanted to agree with that, they are under watch by Lawson's dad. The last thing we need is you getting arrested for murder. It's bad enough that one guy came after us. We just need to wait it out." Emerson told me.

"I'll try, but if they attack us again Em. I'm not making any promises I won't do it again what I did to that guy." I told him.

Emerson smiled. "I don't doubt you. But let's try to get through graduation first." Emerson told me.

I smiled. "Speaking of graduation, how is everything coming along for the party since we graduate next week?" I asked him.

"Lawson says it's going good. We're doing it at his place since it'll probably just be us, some family members and any friends we decide to invite." Emerson told me with a smile. I nodded as I took a bite of my pizza.

"Sounds fun, any food ideas?" I asked.

"Barbeque I believe." Emerson told me and I smiled. "You seem excited about the party." Emerson commented as he grabbed another piece of chicken.

"I am. Lawson's dad grills well and I'm excited to graduate and then start our road trip. I saved up a bunch for it." I told him with a grin.

We had a savings account together and we all had our own bank accounts we had been dumping money in for a while. I had been saving for a while and had a lot of money stashed under the floor of Emerson's house.

I had put one hundred away in my house once, but it disappeared afterwards. So, I took to putting some money away in Emerson's house.

"Yeah, I'm excited about the road trip as well." Emerson told me with a smile. "Lawson and I have begun marking some places to go to if you want to include anything." Emerson told me and I smiled.
