I observed Violet Adair as she trotted off in a direction near our dorm. I knew who she was, we all knew. I just wanted to be polite.

"Dude, that's Violet Adair. Right?" William said, watching her too. William Shaffer, first-string safety, studying for his Master's in Culinary.

What is she doing around here? Especially alone. "I'm pretty sure." I said.

"I can't believe she's here. I didn't even know she was visiting the campus, which means her sisters are here too, I wonder where. . ." William scanned the perimeter around us.

We began walking again, about half a mile behind Violet.

"I didn't know either. Maybe no one knows they're here," Austin said.

I was assisting Austin to go from back-up quarterback to first-string. Of course, it will be his hard work and skill that will win him the position next season after I'm gone, but helping him out doesn't hurt. With this season being my last, though, I couldn't imagine wanting to play for anyone else besides the Crimson Tide.

"That girl is so hot. I mean, did you see that throw? Holy shit," William said, watching Violet as if he longed for her. "I need to know more about her."

I scoffed. I can't believe him right now. Wait. Yes, I can. But I understood the intrigue, I sort of was too.

"Which is where you come in, my friend." William said, elbowing me.

"What?" I said in confusion at the correlation.

"I need you to get to know her for me, and by the end of each day just tell me all you find out." The simplicity-coated tone in his voice made me twitch.

"William, I have football to focus on, as do you," I halted to look him straight in the eyes. "Besides, why can't you do it?"

"I'm still in school, whereas you're not," William said. "C'mon Tan the Man. Be my wingman!"

My eyebrow arched and I glanced at Violet stomping away. Well, at least I don't have to worry about Mary thinking something is up. She's a cool, understanding girlfriend. "She doesn't seem like she's very interested about much. . . you sure you have your sights set on her?"

"I'm positive," he said, assured as he watched her too.

I inhaled deeply. "Alright, buddy. I'll help you out."

"Wonderful!" he pushed me forward ever-so-slightly and very quickly and lightly tapped me on the butt.

I glared at him. I just deadlifted more than half my body weight and he wants me to do this now? "William, I'm hot and sweaty."

"That's what showers are for, my friend. Besides, girls like the appearance of a man who works out!" He said, smirking. "Now, get going!"

I stepped toward Violet with a hair-standing-on-end growl. In the distance, I could make out two people arguing.
