Chapter 32 - Revelation

Adelina's pov:

I woke up today feeling really tired so I decided to stay in my bed all morning. Although I had a great time yesterday it exhausted me. I still cannot believe it! If someone had told me two months ago that I would be spending my entire day with Maximus picnicking, talking and acting like a real couple, I would have thought they were kidding me or completely crazy. And now I'm here, I feel great that I spent the whole day with him. I couldn't be more confused. Has Maximus fallen for me or is it another plan of his to keep me around? And if it is one of his plans why is he doing all this? I have already accepted to be his Luna with all that entails. If I were him, I would spend my free time doing whatever I enjoy, like my hobbies. I wouldn't spend time having picnic with someone I used to reject. His behavior is so controversial. It doesn't make sense to me at all. Anyway the more I think about it the more confused I get. It's better to get up and get ready as I have arranged to have brunch with Alex and Marisa today and I do not want to be late!

I got up and headed to the bathroom to do my daily routine. After half an hour, I got dressed and was ready to go down and have some coffee when I heard a knock on the door.

-"Come in" I said and waited.

-"Good morning sis! How was your night?"

-"Good morning Jake! I didn't know you were still here! I thought you've already left with Dad".

-" No, I haven't. I had some matters to take care of before I left. I also wanted to talk to you before I left. I was looking for you all day yesterday and no one knew where you were. Where have you been anyway?'

-"Yesterday I was with Maximus. We were having a picnic."

-"Oh how nice! What a lovely couple you are! I am very happy for you. Your mate seems to be taking good care of you, considering the fact that he rejected you and treated you terribly at first" he said venomously. I was surprised by his behavior. I honestly didn't expect such behavior from Jake. He is always so discreet and well behaved. What got into him? Why does he react in such a way?

-"What....? You know?" I asked him feeling really embarrassed and hanging my head in shame.

-"Come on, Adelina why are you hiding from me? I know everything. People talk and even if I was far away from you, I knew you were unhappy and that you were abused."

-"If you knew why didn't you do anything to protect me? Why didn't you come to save me?" I scolded him. I started to feel betrayed and angry. If they knew, why did they leave me here all alone? Why didn't they come to save me and take me back home?

-" Because at first I didn't know if it was true or just rumors spread out of jealousy and since you didn't say anything on the phone, I guessed it was the latter.''

-"And what changed your mind? Why you don't believe it anymore?" I wondered.

-"I realized it when I got here Adelina...... And what one sees with one's eyes no words cannot be changed by words"

-"I am sorry but something does not fit here. When you came, there was no mistreatment or abuse or rejection towards me. On the contrary, I was already the Luna and respected and well treated by everyone. So how did you figure out that the rumors were true?"

-"I really can't tell you how I found out. It's hard for me to put it into words."

His response didn't convince me at all and I did what I always do when I do not want to discuss a matter anymore. I changed the subject. That of course didn't mean that his answer covered me or that I was going to give up.

Sooner or later I will find out what he hides from me. There is something different about him. A lot have changed since I'd left.

-"Hmm...I see...And what are your plans for today?" I asked him.
