Chapter 36 - An Unexpected Kiss

Maximus' pov:

-"Sorry to interrupt Alpha but Luna is outside and wants to talk to you. Shall I let her in?" one of my guards interrupted. I was so focused on the file I was reading that I didn't even hear him enter.

-"Yes, tell her to come in and make sure no one disturbs us" I ordered.

-"Υes Sir" the guard said and left the room.

After some seconds Adelina got inside wearing a beautiful white dress with her brown hair loose. She looked like a fairy. She was stunning!

-"Good evening Maximus, I am sorry for interrupting. I have something very important to tell you, it will only take a few minutes" she said in an airy voice.

How could I be so blind? Why didn't I notice the beauty of this woman before? The way she moves and talks is extremely seductive. But apart from her appearance she has a heart of gold, a strong mind and a very dynamic soul. How did I manage to hurt her like this?

That's why now she prefers the company of other men more than mine. She is happy with others like when she spends time with Nicolas. Maybe she is in love with him and plans to leave me. But no, I can't let that happen. I hope she won't do any craziness cause I won't be able to restrain myself and eventually hell will break loose.

-"It's ok Adelina. I needed a break after all. Please sit" Ι managed to tell her pointing at one of the armchairs.

He sat on one of them giving me a small smile. A few seconds passed in complete silence when he hesitantly began to speak.

-"It's a bit difficult for me to begin...you know... what I have to tell you is very important to me."

-"What's going on? Does it concern your Luna's responsibilities? Did you have any problem with one of the Elders or any other pack member? Feel free to tell me everything" I assured her.

-"No...it's not about it. Maximus...I... came here firstly to ... ...to thank you".

-"Thank me? For what? " I asked incredulously.

-" You know I've told you many times in the past that you don't have to pretend we're mates and that there's an agreement between us that we've both already accepted. But yesterday your support, although completely unexpected for me, was true and life-saving. If you hadn't said those words, I probably wouldn't have found the strength to defend my work to the Elders and the others. You gave me the push to move forward. You proved to me that you can be supportive and helpful and that you maybe care about me. This means a lot to me"

-"You know it wasn't my intention to prove anything. You presented a very good project which I supported. You are my Luna. It is my duty to take care of you. Αny attack on you is also a direct attack on me. Now for the true mate you talked about, I do not know if I can be but I am really trying my best" I told her sincerely.

-"Ι know that you are very responsible and you take your job very seriously. But I also know that you didn't need to do this. You confronted your most loyal members for me and for that I cannot be more grateful".

Although her words seemed wonderful and warmed my heart, I had my doubts as to whether they were true and genuine. Does she tell me the truth? Does she really feel grateful for my support yesterday? Or is it another trick of Nicolas and hers to fool me? Several thoughts flooded my mind before I could be able to reply to her.

-"I think you are exaggerating. Like I said, I did nothing more or less than any other Alpha would do if they were in my position " Ι told her trying to look indifferent, when in fact I cared more and more about her as the days passed by.

-"Anyway, I want to thank you in some way" she said slightly disappointed.

-"Really there is no need to........" I discouraged her.

-"No, no Mr. .....You can't get away with it this time" she said smiling. I smiled back at her and stood up. I approached her slowly and asked her seductively: "What exactly do you have in mind?"

It was obvious that there was a lot of eroticism in the atmosphere. Lately I catch myself smiling when I see her and trying more and more to be close to her. I just can't stop staring at her, smelling her sweet perfume and touching her soft body.

She stopped for a few seconds. Apparently she felt the same way as me. The bond worked its magic. She looked me straight in the eye with a question as if she didn't believe her own eyes, her own feelings.

I gave her a wide smile and with my left hand caressed her cheek. She tilted her head to welcome it. The sensation was amazing! Sparks filled my whole body and butterflies stuck in my stomach. For the first time in my life I felt full, calm and happy?! This feeling had no place in my life for many years. How could I feel happiness just from one touch of hers? That was insane! The feeling was getting louder and louder and it was flooding my heart. I wanted to hug her tightly and kiss her all over. But Adelina didn't give me the chance. She abruptly walked away. It took her some seconds to compose herself and then she said seriously.

-"There is another thing I want to talk to you about".

I made a sigh after I run my hand through my hair. I do not like it when she gets away from me but I suppose I deserve it. I have to try a lot to establish a healthy relationship with her. I have to win her all over! I have to prevent this idiot Nicolas or any other aspiring lover to approach her.

-"I want to visit my family" she said and I kept staring at her completely in surprise.

- "What?" I mustered up the courage to ask.

-"It's been a long time since I saw them. I would like to be with them, especially with my sister Stella who is pregnant and is about to give birth any day now. I want to be there with her"

-"You know I cannot leave the pack at the moment" I told her strictly.

-"I know that and I would never ask you for such a thing. But... I .... I was wondering if I could go alone."

-"Alone?"

-"Yes alone. Why not? Does it bother you?" she questioned.

-"I just hate the idea of leaving you alone. But I suppose your request is fair enough"

-"Thank you! Thank you so much!" she exclaimed happily.

-"It will be accepted only under two conditions" I said strictly.

-"Which are?" she asked disappointingly.

-"Firstly, wherever you go, whatever you do you will be followed by your personal guard. I also inform you that it is going to double and will be empowered by some high ranking members of my choice and confidence. Chris unfortunately can't accompany you but maybe Dimitri or Leopold can. Secondly you will stay there for a maximum of two weeks. You cannot be absent from your responsibilities any longer. Do you agree with the terms?"

-"Totally agreed" she said radiating.

-"When do you want to leave?" I asked her.

-"As soon as possible!" she said.

That really hurt. I didn't think she wanted to leave so soon. But there is nothing I can do to stop her. I realized that if I wanted to win her heart, I had to show her trust and not oppress her for anything.

-"Is it ok for tomorrow morning?" I proposed although the thought of it was killing me.

-"I suppose it is! Thank you! Thank you so much" she excitedly stood up, approached me and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek, a cheek I must confess I didn't anticipate, but made me feel wonderful. That kiss stole my heart and made me fly to heaven.

-"Go prepare your things and I will take care of the rest" I assured her.

She gave me a wide smile and exited the room. Although she had already left minutes ago, I kept staring at the door with contradictory feelings. I must admit that I didn't like the fact that she was leaving but when I saw her so excited and happy I just couldn't deny her. I was sure I have done the right thing. I was happy because she was happy. And I was pretty sure that this wasn't the bond's doing. It was something else, more deep, more profound, something completely new and different to me. I was not just in love with her but I deeply loved her.
