Yeonjun woke up the next morning with his eyes feeling swollen, his fingers brushed along his eyelid, picking up a wet sensation.
He woke up crying.
It seemed as if he had spent the whole night bawling his eyes out, given his puffy eyes. He'd like to believe that whatever had happened yesterday was all a horrible dream. But it wasn't as his memories began to resurface, a horrible feeling of sadness resting in his heart.
➸
He stood still, his mind in a knot, not knowing how to react in the slightest.
There was an ongoing fight in his head: accept Soobin's confession, and he can pretend to be living in a mirage while potentially endangering his life further. Turn him down, and there will be a chance for Soobin's safety.
It was either his own happiness or Soobin's life.
The latter was more important.
"Why all of a sudden?" Yeonjun asked, trying to mask up the emotions he was feeling.
Soobin blinked at him, the sparkle in his eyes gone, his smile faltering. It hurt Yeonjun to see Soobin's smile fall so quickly, but he knew that accepting his confession would only make him selfish.
"Must there be a reason for me to feel a certain way? I like you, Yeonjun, and nothing can change that."
As he took a deep breath, Yeonjun tried to pretend to appear nonchalant, ignoring the cries and whispers coming from his heart.
"I'm sorry, but I don't feel the same way," he lied, taking one last look at the latter before turning away—
"You don't have to give me an answer straight away—we could still be friends," Soobin said, grabbing onto Yeonjun's forearm tightly.
"We can't—" Yeonjun breathed, "we can't still be friends, not after knowing what you've just told me. It changes everything—" the vampire continued, not daring to look behind.
He attempted to be free from Soobin's grip, giving his wrist a flick for it to be only held once more.
"Nothing will change. This won't affect our friendship in anyway. I don't mind it—" Soobin said, his eyes glassy under the light.
"But I do."
The effect of those words were enough to extinguish any will in Soobin to make Yeonjun stay as he allowed his hand to slip from Yeonjun's. His confidence and determination melting into defeat.
Not sparing a glance at the boy's crestfallen face, Yeonjun walked away with a single tear trickling down the side of his face.

Students flowed into the cafeteria, the tables slowly filling up as everyone seemed to be with their usual clique of friends.
Everyone except for Yeonjun, who seemed lost in the sea of people. He couldn't sit with them anymore, not without running into Soobin. In the corner of his eye, he spotted a single empty table. Yeonjun was in the act of walking towards him before feeling an arm yank at his.
