His senses flooded back to him as light entered his eyes. It felt as if his skull had been cracked open, like an eggshell. Pain seared through the top of his head as Soobin winced slightly, wanting to brush over it. But something locked his hands in place.
Looking down, it was then when Soobin realised that his hands and legs are tied together with duct tape. He turned around, his vision still slightly blurred but just clear enough for him to realise that he hadn't had the faintest clue where he was right now.
It was dark and cold. The pain got a little better, giving Soobin the chance to focus. But he couldn't. Any will to escape turned into fear as he looked around, feeling scared. It was only then when the realisation had hit Soobin.
He had been kidnapped.
His heartbeat was racing faster now. What should he do? Running wasn't an option. He is tied and locked onto a chair. Crying for help wouldn't be an option either, as it was only a matter of time before his kidnapper comes here and—
Where was his kidnapper anyway? Here he is, all alone in a dark room as Soobin tried to think of a plan—something—anything he could do at the moment to keep himself alive.
Yeonjun.
Yeonjun must've noticed that he was missing and is probably looking for him right now. Soobin heaved a sigh of relief, momentarily feeling relaxed knowing that someone's bound to come for him—
But then his solace quickly died, replaced by guilt.
No. Yeonjun coming here would only put the latter in much danger. Soobin swallowed. He really is alone now. Or was he? Knowing his boyfriend, Yeonjun would do anything to keep him safe.
And that was what Yeonjun is probably doing right now.
Which means he has to go along with it.
Calm down. You can't think straight when you're panicking, Soobin told himself. For now, just try to keep yourself alive until Yeonjun, or anyone else, arrives.
And he did exactly that. Soobin tried his best to turn around as he now fully looked at his surroundings; shelves. . .boxes . . .tools . . .
He was in a warehouse, that's for sure.
But where? The sound of a door swinging open behind him snapped Soobin out of his thoughts as he didn't dare to turn around. Footsteps and the sound of a cart being wheeled in are heard. Soobin breathed shallow breaths, not wanting to make a sound.
Though it seemed as if the person who had just entered the room had noticed his victim's consciousness as he asked in a low voice, "so, you're awake now?"
Soobin didn't reply. It was now either he a) answers the question and risk getting killed faster, or b) remain silent and play dead.
"Answer me."
Option A it is then. "Where am I?" He asked, his voice steady and calm.
"Oh, don't worry too much," the man continued to say from behind him.
Soobin turned his head around just enough for him to see the man handling a tray of empty vials. Silence accompanied by the sound of glass hitting metal resounded across the room, only serving to feed his unyielding horror.
The sight of a needle being shined under the few lights caught Soobin's eyes as he felt his stomach churn in trepidation.
He was about to get knocked out cold.
And then inhumanely have every last ounce of his blood sucked out of him.
That must be what those vials and empty bags were for.Soobin felt light-headed and sick to the stomach as the thought dawned on him.
He was about to die.
But then he remembered Yeonjun. No, he can't lose hope. Not now, at least. His hope quickly scorned to unease as he then realised that while he had been running away with the girl, Yeonjun was left to deal with that man all by himself.
Horror swarmed his head.
Were the girl and the man in a league? A team with a carefully thought out plan to catch him tonight? Does that mean Yeonjun is. . .
"Y-y-yeonjun—where is he?" Soobin breathed, turning to his abductor.
Only a ripple of laughter came to reply.
"WHERE IS HE?" Soobin shouted.
The laughing stopped as footsteps approached him. Soobin hung his head low, turning away to sense the presence of a man standing in front of him at that moment.
"I'm Hee Suk," his kidnapper greeted, extending an arm.
Soobin scowled back. "I said, where is Yeonjun?"
He didn't bother to suppress a satisfied look as Hee Suk's lips pulled into a smile. "Your boyfriend. . . hm. Let's just say he's under my care," he said gently, bowing to meet the boy's eye level.
Soobin instantly looked up, ashen. "D-d-don't hurt him," he begged, his emotions out ruling rationality. "It's me you want, not him. Please, kill me if it means Yeonjun being unharmed and safe."
Hee Suk pursed his lips, intrigued by the deal he had just been offered. "Ah, human love. How sweet and romantic, though, I'm afraid that's not how things work here, mortal," he said slyly, tracing a finger down Soobin's neck.
Hairs instantly stood upright over the spot that is touched as chills travelled down his spine. Soobin saw it clearly now; the syringe being clutched in Hee Suk's other hand. His stomach blanched with horror.
"Why don't I do you two a favour and kill the two of you. Hm?"
Reason and logic came flooding back in his mind as Soobin took a deep breath. Distract Hee Suk just long enough until Yeonjun arrives. That is the best and the only option he had at that moment.
"Only, you wouldn't," Soobin replied coolly, trying to keep his calm demeanour.
"What?"
"Oh, you can kill me right now if you tried to. But you certainly won't be able to get Yeonjun. It might even worry you now that my boyfriend is on his way to come to save me at this moment," Soobin spoke clearly, lies rolling off his tongue.
His tactic seemed to have worked as he could pick up on the slight change in Hee Suk's face.
"You're lying—"
"Oh, yeah? Prove me wrong then," Soobin challenged.
Relief took over as he watched Hee Suk walk to the other side of the room, wanting to make a phone call.
"If this turns out to be a lie, I won't bother to give you another second to live," Hee Suk threatened darkly, his eyes searing Soobin's.
The boy merely gave him a shrug.
"Hello," Hee Suk said through the phone.
"Ah, boss—you see, I was just about to give you a call and—"
"Where is Yeonjun."
Silence gripped the room.
"Boss, I—"
"I said, where is Yeonjun?"
Just then, the front door of the warehouse was kicked open as the silhouette of a slender finger walked into the room. The ethereal glow shining in his ruby-red eyes too obvious for Soobin to miss as ease with a mix of butterflies blossomed in his stomach.
"I'm right here."
