"I threw out my birth control."
Percy turned his head so fast that Annabeth was sure he got whiplash.
"I'm sorry, I don't think I heard you right. Did you say you threw out your birth control?!"
"Yeah. I just- I want a baby. I think we're ready. We've been married for three years, and we're financially stable enough for another person. I'm ready." She took a bite of her cereal.
Percy looked a mix of terrified and proud of his wife for making such a big decision without his input. Of course, they had talked about kids on and off throughout their marriage, but he never knew how serious Annabeth was about having their own biological child. They had always talked about adopting a couple children and maybe a teenager through foster care, and that had always been a thought for the distant future. Plus, he was pretty sure that Annabeth was terrified of pregnancy.
He drank the leftover milk from his cereal bowl.
"Well? What do you think?" Annabeth asked, his silence finally getting to her.
"I didn't think it would be so soon, but I can adjust. If this is what you want, it's what I want too."
"Are you sure? I can go back on it until we're both ready-"
"Annabeth," he tilted his head back and ran his hands through his hair. "We can have a baby," he looked at her. "I thought that we were going to try adopting first. I signed us up to get our liscencing to become foster parents. We start next month."
"Oh," she said softly. "Percy, we can do that. Let's try foster care first, and if it doesn't work out, we can have our own." She took his hand and squeezed it. "We'll figure it out. We're going to have kids, one way or another."
He kissed her hand. "As you wish."
A short little thing for today! This is based off of one scene in the fanfic "built from scraps" on Ao3 by peterstank. I really liked that concept, and thought it fit these two really well.
